BvC
Sorry, but as anyone following my posts thus far can tell, I lean more on the side of musician than electronics/hardware expert. I don't know where better than here to ask this. Will someone tell me whether the product below powers the device (i.e., keyboard) one is using via USB? Or is the product description simply stating that you don't need to plug this cable into the wall via another cable? http://www.floridamusicco.com/proddetail~prod~cme_u2midi_usb_midi_cable.htm If they mean the latter, then that is some tricky phrasing and deceptive marketing. The idea of needing to plug a cable into a cable is absurd. But the idea of powering a 25-year-old piece of hardware through a MIDI input is also kind of strange. BvC
Well, I stand corrected. Apparently power through the MIDI jack DOES exist (based on the first FAQ on this list: http://www.midisolutions.com/faqs.htm). But I still don't know if an synth from the early days of MIDI - that was not designed with the idea of being powered by MIDI in mind - can accomplish this. David Nahmani
It just means the device is powered by the USB port on the computer - the "device" being the USB to MIDI converter, not the keyboard. The keyboard still needs its own source of power.
BvC
"You can record, practice, and play your instrument anytime or anywhere." Something about that seems very misleading then. Shady marketing it is then.
David Nahmani
Is there any other kind of marketing?
