selling logic 8 upgrade...possible ???....simple ???

Recommended Posts

just been going through the hassle of reinstalling my system, after clearing out a load of crap....

this time, instead of installing 'logic pro 7' through 'logic 9', i just put my 'pro 7' dongle in and installed 'L9' from scratch....my 'logic 8' dvd's never came out of their sleeves

so, i have no further need for my 'L8' upgrade dvd's

does anyone know if i'm able to sell these on ?? if so, is it a simple process ???

cheers

Essentially, what you are wanting to do is "Transfer" the license - Apple's licensing language on "Transfer" is located in the license at the following URL:

URL: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/logicstudio8.pdf

Edit : Removed actual licensing language.

From your description you upgraded from Logic 7 to Logic 9 without using the Logic 8 Upgrade at all. Therefore, you can transfer the Logic 8 Upgrade.

How to sell it - Maybe Craigslist, eBay or, via a local Logic User Group.

Hope this helps....

yes, i ugraded from my original L7 to L8....used this until i upgraded to L9....but it seems that i can bypass L8 now, completely....just need my L7 dongle and the L9 dvd's

the issue is trying to find a reasonable price, seeing as the upgrade to L9 costs the same whether from L7 or L8

hmmmm ???

thanks :D

It seems to me that all the upgrades are based on the Logic 7 license. Offering the Logic 8 upgrades is implying that you are providing a Logic license with the sale.

It's the license that is transferable. You have one, not two.

My 2cents. :)

El-bo, your posts are fun, I don't want to see you posting from jail.

The License states:

Updates: If an Apple Software update completely replaces (full install) a previously licensed version of the Apple Software, you may not use both versions of the Apple Software at the same time nor may you transfer them separately.

So the key question is whether a major Update 7 -> 8 is a replacement (full install). I haven't done a major update but I'm guessing it is. In which case the license cannot be transferred. This said the update is an update and would be transferred from one license holder to another i.e the purchaser would have to have a licensed copy of Logic 7 for the Logic 8 update to work. I would sell/give the Logic 8 Upgrade because its not installed on the sellers (El-bo's) computer and, the update is being transferred to another license holder. Therefore, there is no Copyright/IP infringement.

my head hurts   :D

i'm pretty sure the L8 software, itself, is a complete package as everything was new in the jump from L& to L8..i'm guessing the cheaper update version was programmed to not work if no ilok was present...

or am i being dumb ??

and the guy i would give it to has a legit copy of L7 that he uses in his studio...he doesn't wn to upgrade when his income depends on how well he knows L7 and how well it works for him..this will allow him to learn it at his own pace but also allow for a much easier collab process

i wonder when apple will start using downloads for updates

They already use downloads for updates but I know you meant upgrades.

Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

you're right, i did mean upgrades...

full dvd's could remain for those who were first time buyers or those with a shoddy internet service but how many times will i have to get dvd's of jam packs i already have, of soundtrack pro soundbeds i have no interest in using
