alva1414
I am having a streaming issue in logic when I am recording. My setup is Logic 9 with a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interface running on a Mac book pro Unibody( 2.4 ghz processor, 4 gigs ram, 5400 rpm internal HD, and 90 gigs of free space( soon to be much more when my new external harddrive come in). My main goal with this setup is to be able to record drums( with all 8 ins of the Pro 40 and eventually the ADAT inputs). I can record fine with my current setup and listen back to my tracks just fine but I am having a huge issue being able to listen to audio( say a playalong track) while recording drums. I can't even get 1 input without the Disk I/o going into the red making it impossible to record a bands overdubs with say a drummer listening to the bands bass and guitar tracks. I however can record while listening to Logics Apple Loops. The way I usualyl manage my sessions is having logic running off the internal disk and my session running off the harddrive with the files writing to that sessions audio folder. Are the "internal disk" and the "harddrive" one and the same? So basically everything is taxing the same internal 5,400 rpm drive? Or are you using an external drive? If you are, what kind, how big, how full, etc..?
alva1414
Yes basically it seems that my hard disk can't keep up with buffering the audio both ways( buffering the recored and buffering the audio needed to play back) THe external is a lacie rugged connected through FW 800 through th eback of the interface( macbook only has 1 fw port). My external is 320 gigs of space with 160 gbs free to use.
David Nahmani
So is the project on the internal or external? Still not clear....?
alva1414
I have tried: Project on the external Project on the internal Project on the internal while im writing audio to the external All yield the same results with a rare occurence of it acting normal. David Nahmani
And I'm assuming the external is 7,200 rpm? That's odd, I mean, I'd think it should work on the internal, but definitely it should work on the external. Not sure what could be going on there... David Nahmani
I'm assuming he meant his 3rd party plug-ins.
alva1414
ya my 3rd party stuff.
Jordi Torres
OK, but by "my software" you meant Logic, right? 3rd party plug-ins, being 3rd party (unrelated to Logic), do not need to be reinstalled if you reinstall Logic. Uninstalling Logic does not remove the Components folder (where 3rd party plug-ins reside). J.
alva1414
yes im gonna attempt to reinstall logic tomorrow. I think the issue could reside in teh firewire bus. On the macbook pro unibiodys is there a way of utilizing a firewire bus card in the SD card slot giving you another firewire port?
