475ENTertainment
i was just recently having this problem and i thought it was fixed but i guess not. for some reason my mic will not show up or the levels wont even move when im trying to record vocals. im working with a mxl 990 mic and a line 6 tone port ux2 usb interface on a iMac g5, im looking right at the meters on the line 6 interface and theyre clearly registering that the mic is working properly, i can also hear the mic perfectly fine in the headphones, now while im in logic pro i get no response at all, the meters there will not budge at all. before this issue i would get vocals that were so faint they were barely even there, then all of a sudden everything worked fine, now all of a sudden i get absolutely nothing at all. all from the time the vocals were faint to perfect till now, i have not changed any settings or anything. buzwah
Double check that in your Audio Preferences that your Interface is selected not the Built in audio.
475ENTertainment
it is, ive checked that numerous time to make sure it wasnt that, i even switched to built in then right back to my interface to kinda reset it possibly and still got nothing from it. ive also tried deleting the track for the vocals to start a new one and that did nothing, along with restarting the program which had the same results. everything was perfectly fine and as far as i can remember i didnt change no settings or anything, i took a break nad got some food, came back and went to finish recording just to realize that there was nothing. but i can still hear the mic the entire time through the headphones and i see it registering on the meters on the line 6 interface
buzwah
Obviously the signal is not getting to Logic, so I would be checking the cables you are using. Swap them with others to try to isolate the problem.
475ENTertainment
ok so heres what i did,i pretty much shut down and unplugged everything, then re plugged it all in then re loaded up logic pro 8 and still the same result.....ok im sorry, i just looked at something and maybe this will give you some info, on track 1 (instrumental) above the equalizer bar its saying its at 0.7 db, now when i switch to look at track 2 (verse 1) it says above the meter its at -80. i dont know if this has to do with anything or not but i thought id throw that in there cause the more info on what im seeing the better right? and i dont think its nothing with the wiring because im still hearing my voice good in the headphones and seeing the equalizer meters on the audio interface moving normally, the wiring set up is still the same as it was when the vocals were coming out and recording good too, hopefully this info helps you
buzwah
Have you thought of trying the support from the interface company? Maybe they can shed some light on hooking it all up to get you going. There are a lot of variables as to why you're not seeing and hearing the interface. Without knowing the exact method of how you are setting it up it's difficult to offer a solution. redlogic
Do you have the correct input selected on the channel strip in Logic? Is the channel strip/track record enabled?
475ENTertainment
@redlogic yeah i have the track record enabled, for some reason the track that im using for my vocals is registering at -80 db and no matter how high i turn the volume settings for that specific track it will not move off of -80 db, but theres a bar/chart on the side of the track listing on the left of the mixer box which reads the lowest point at -60 db. and as far as input for the track goes, ive tried messing around with it a little bit to maybe fix it like trying different inputs. but the weird thing is this, it all started when i originally started the track, it was recording the vocals really faint and were almost not hearable, then a little bit later after i came back from lunch the vocals were great all of a sudden, im not sure if i clicked a button or something or not but i do believe i didnt, then once again, i left for a little bit to get some dinner then when i came back it just wouldnt pick up the vocals at all. but i will throw in this information for you, the entire time ive been able to hear the vocals through the mic in the headphones the entire time, so im guessing its not the mic or interface im using, because if that was the case im sure i wouldnt be hearing anything coming from the mic at all...at least i think. if theres any information that i can give you to help you out to give you an idea of what might be going on just let me know. redlogic
You set the level coming into Logic from the ux2. Is output level of the ux2 turned up?
475ENTertainment
ok so i found the issue and it was one of the settings in logic. i thought that the sound settings on the iMac its self were the only settings i had to switch to my interface but i was wrong. i didnt know there were the same type of settings in logic, once i switched them over everything has been running smooth ever since then. thank you guys for your help and support, once again it was very much needed and appreciated

David Nahmani
buzwah had your number in the very first reply to your original post. Yup, I suppose that "your audio preferences" was misinterpreted as "your system audio preferences" vs "your Logic audio preferences" Goes to show, one can never be too detailed/precise. Anyway, 475ENTertainment, good to hear you solved it!
475ENTertainment
yes he did, right on the button. i didnt even know that Logic had a setting for the audio preferences till i stumbled upon it and seen it was set to internal audio, and that click of a button fixed everything. thank you guys for your time and effort on such a simple problem. its extremely helpful and appreciated
