Vocals out of time with music

Vexing problem with timing of vocals. When I record a vocal to music, it sounds in time and fine. When I playback, the vocal line starts a few milliseconds before it is supposed to and is out of sync. I have tried decreasing the buffer, and recording with low latency mode. I have also tried turning software monitoring off.

None of these things seem to work. I am not sure it is latency either, since the vocal always comes in early and not late. I am using a Zoom H4N as an interface to record. It is set up in the i/o settings and recognized. Again, things sound ok durning the recording, its during playback that it is out of sync. Also, the wave file is actually out of sync with the music too. I should also say, the problem is not only recording vocals. I get the timing issue when recording a guitar to a drum loop too. I have read people have had good success using the H4N as the interface and the sound is very good while recording.

Thanks for any help.

THANK YOU Jordito!!

After searching and searching I found your answer and the annoying timing problem is gone.

It was set at -5000.

The odd thing is, even though I have had this timing problem (infrequently) in the past, I never recall ever changing it...

Thanks again.
