problems loading samples in exs24

Hello everyone,

I have a relatively fresh install of 10.6.5 running Logic 9.1.3 on a 2008 mac book pro. I just found out I'm unable to add additional samples to the exs24. The presets that come with logic all load fine, but if I add any additional sampler instruments and try to load the presets in exs24, then Logic hangs.

I've tried repairing permissions several times but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any similar problems?

Thanks for your help!

Hey.. how are you trying to load the samples in? I just load an exs, hit edit, make a new sampler instrument, then start dropping samples onto the keys.. then save the instrument and it should pop up as an option when you load the exs from then on in any project.

I realized I may be using confusing nomenclature... What I'm trying to do is just to load an exs24 patch that's not in logic's default library, not load samples into and instrument.

What I've found is that if I put the samples in an additional directory within Sampler Instruments (in this case Drums/) then exs24 loads them fine, but if they're at the root of Sampler Instruments, they don't load. Not sure why this is and I know I didn't have problems with this before?

Ahh, ok.. you have .exs files? the correct path should be

home>library>app support>logic>sampler instruments

sounds like you got it.. it really shouldn't matter where the actual samples are stored, Logic will find them. This may be trivial, but make sure you're not going in from the macintosh HD>app sup>logic>samp inst ... and dropping your patches in there, it may or may not make a difference, but I think that path is for the factory instruments and the home path is for your custom exs instruments

Usually you have to drop them in when logic isn't running or reboot it if it is and everything should work for you, hope this helps

Hi, thanks for replying.

Yes, i'm in my user directory. The strange thing is, I have to add an additional directory in Sampler Instruments in order of the patch to not hang logic (i.e. Sampler Instruments/Drums/Linndrum NOT Sampler Instruments/Linndrum.

No idea why this is the case, as it worked before. I hate not knowing why, even though it's working with this extra /Drums/ folder!

hmmm, wish I had an answer for you.. if its really bugging you, you could always try to just throw away the linndrum.exs and samples and just reinstall it like you had it before.. it does get frustrating with the little quirky things the exs does. Did you get it from that logic cafe? they've got some interesting things to mess around with.. Now I'm having trouble with mine, that's what I get for trying to make it sound so easy yesterday I guess..

My trouble is with exs instruments I make then move to another computer.. usually if I have all the samples somewhere on that computer everything is fine.. but always with these kits where I have like 50 slices of records I meticulously sampled, layered and assigned, the exs will have the sample name present, but I have to reload all of them and its a pain, well I'm off the soapbox, thats another thread I guess, good luck
