How do you delete audio files for good? [SOLVED]

When I delete an audio region I get two scenarios, the first one being that the region is deleted from the arrange window, and the second one, I get a message asking if I want to keep or erase the file for good from the hard disk.

In both cases, the files still show in the audio pool, meaning unnecessary disk space used.

Basically I'm looking for a function like in Cubase; "delete unused files "from the audio pool, but can't find it in Logic Pro 8.

So how do you do that please?

Thanks

Open the Bin by pressing B. Edit>Select Unused. Then Audio File>Delete File(s).

If you just delete the files in the Bin by selecting them and pressing Delete or Edit>Delete they are deleted from the Bin but not from your hard drive. In that case use File>Project>Clean Up... to rid your HD of the files.

Ok thanks, I just tried but it said warning I'm about to delete 20 files from the hard disk, and at least 7 projects use the same files?!

I know that these files are only used in that project, so maybe Logic is refering to other files which have the same name?

I can't take the risk, so I'll leave it for now, but that's weird..

If you know for a fact that the Audio Files are used only in this project then Logic is probably seeing the Back Ups in your Project>Project File Backups folder which still have those Audio Regions in them.

No risk since you "know that these files are only used in that project".

Ok first, thanks a lot for taking the time to answer,

I need to clarify, my Logic is in French, and I don't see the bin or equivalent anywhere, secondly, I can't find the audio files clean up option you mentioned, what I have is "Update files informations" from the Audio files sub menu of the Pool,

I tried that but it didn't delete anything..

PS ; just checked again, the Bin in the English Logic must be what I call the Pool, right?

This makes me wonder what version of Logic you are using.

Hi,

sorry but I realise the problem is not really solved;

None of the options proposed here have erased the files from the Audio Files folder, and that's exactly what I was trying to achieve.

Why should I keep 3 gigs of drum takes which are not used on a project?

I have done the clean up project, selected unused files and deleted them, they went to the Trash, which I emptied, but when I open my Audio files folder, all the files are still there, I don't get it..

Ok, more info, I did clean up again ( which I had already done) and now it has found all the drum files.

They are now in the Trash and not in the Audio Files folder anymore.

But why weren't they found the first time around?

Also when you delete a region, the dialog box asking if you want to keep or delete doesn't always appear, why is that?

It only offers that option for a recent recording - otherwise the Arrange area is typically not a destructive editor so after an audio file has been recorded for a while, deleting its region in the Arrange is a non-destructive process (the region is still present in your Bin).
