Quickest way to punch in when recording alone.

I'm not a huge fan of autopunch, and when I am recording alone (especially with guitar) I get a bit frustrated at having to punch in, especially when I am writing a song, I basically just don't want little things slowing me down.

The best way I found around this is to assign a footswitch (I just use a sustain pedal, but any midi sending footswitch device is fine) to the record function in the keyboard shortcuts window. This way I wont have to use my hands and can pay more attention to the part I need to record.

To do this:

1. Open up KB shortcuts (opt + k)

2. Search for record and click on it

3. Click 'learn new assignment'

4. Hit the pedal

5. You're done

Just make sure you have 'punch on the fly' activated, you can do this by right clicking on the record button in the transport window.

I find this helps me to get into the groove more and I don't have to really think about recording too much, which lets me focus on my playing. I literally just have to hit play and then tap the footswitch whenever I need it to start recording.

Hope this helps out a few people.
