Trimming Midi Regions

Recommended Posts

Hi all, sorry for this seemingly dumb question, but i cant figure out how to solve it. When I record a midi track and stop, the clip begins from when i hit record. I guess this makes sense although I'd prefer to start it from the first note of the recorded clip. Does anyone know what squirm command is to trim it, or am I doing something silly within my recording setup?

I.e. If I hit record at say bar 3 beat 2'sh but only start my first note at bar 5, I want the clip to start at bar 5 not bar 3 beat 2.

Select the region.

Put the Playhead where you want the region to start.

Go to Region > Split > Split Regions by Playhead.

or

Control-click the region and go Split > Split Regions by Playhead.

or

Configure the Toolbar to have a Split by Playhead button.

or

Use the key command for Split Regions/Events by Playhead Position.

Delete the unwanted portion.

And that's exactly the behavior you should see, Logic should only start the region at bar 5. If the note is before the downbeat Logic may start the region at bar 4.

If you're not getting that behavior that could be because some kind of MIDI data (clock, CC, sysex, etc...) is reaching Logic's input and Logic is starting to record that data into a region right away. Otherwise Logic waits for the first MIDI event to create a region.
