WorldCitizen
Hello, I'm quite a beginner with DAW. Currently I can record audio but no midi, it's diffcult to sync sometimes...as you can imagine. So what device could I buy to sync logic studio to my motif es8 (no spdif card by the way). for example I would like logic studio to start recording when I press Play on a motif es8 song. I think you see what I want to achieve. Thanks for your suggestions. Pierre
Scott Jackson
Here's a good place to start. Read the 'Quick Guide - Computer applications' section of the manual.
David Nahmani
Hi Pierre. So far, what kind of connections do you have between the keyboard and your computer? USB? MIDI? Audio? What in goes into what out?
WorldCitizen
Thanks, so far I record the keyboard through the built-in audio input of the IMAC to logic Studio. I figure, if I had a device that can linked the midi output of the keyboard to logic studio I could sync more easily. Pierre
David Nahmani
Does your keyboard have a USB connection? If yes, use that. If no, then you'll need to purchase a USB MIDI interface.
WorldCitizen
Thanks again, Yes there is one. Ok then if I hook a cable from the motif USB to the mac USB, what kind of settings I need to setup in Logic studio to establish a sync? Is there some part of the documentation that relates to this? David Nahmani
Yes, I'm sure if you search the doc for "synchronization" you'll find some information. But we're not there yet. Play some notes on your MIDI keyboard. Do you see some activity in your Transport bar MIDI In display (which otherwise says "No in")? WorldCitizen
Thanks everyone for your quick answers. I will try this tomorrow as it is already midnight. I'll give you a feedback tomorrow. Thanks again, Pierre
WorldCitizen
Ok, I see the notes in the bottom midi window when the keyboard is playing. Now, how do I setup logic to control the start of the song on the keyboard or vice-versa? Thanks, Pierre
WorldCitizen
Well I think I got it, I set logic studio to transmit on all ports of Motif es8 and when I click record the song starts!! (the motif is set as slave). is there anything else I should know? Thanks, Pierre
