Rossco1
Hi guys, I Logic 8 I notice that my system is overloading when I use my midi keyboard on more that a couple of tracks. I have a keyboard plugged in and start making tracks 1, then 2, then on 3 I start to get this error message. The CPU goes red and then the message appears. When I record audio tracks I can usually record about 25 before I start to see the error message. But on the midi stuff, three tracks maximum. The only workaround is to freeze the tracks, then move on. I am working to an external drive with more than 1 gb of free space. Also my system drive has 120 gb free. Anybody know what the problem is? Thanks in advance.
triplets
1 GB free?? You mean 10 or 100 GB? What virtual instrument are you using? What computer do you have?
Rossco1
Hi Triplets, Sorry, I meant 1 tb (using a 2tb) external drive. I have a G5 and have a Kurzweil electric piano connected to the computer. In the I/O I select Garageband-Piano-Steinway. Thanks very much for your help (this is really becoming a problem!) triplets
Is it a USB or FW drive? USB is slow for audio applications. Second, how much ram do you have on the computer? On virtual instruments, a G5 is not really that fast anymore. What G5 is it? A single cpu or dual cpu?
Rossco1
Hi Triplets, Thanks for writing back. The connection between the computer and external drive is firewire and the computer has 4.5 gb memory. It is a single core G5. I recently added Final Cut Express and have edited a large family video project. All of the files are stored on the same external drive (i.e. 2 T of which 960 Gb are still free) Would this have any impact on the speed of Logic 8? triplets
I suspected you had a single core G5. They are too underpowered for many virtual instruments. Your only solution is to freeze the tracks. The fact that you have Final Cut doesn't have any impact on Logic.
