JackFlash
Hello, finally make the switch to LP9 and went with Davids book to get up to speed with the new stuff. Small problem that I cant figure out is that I cant seem to be able to set my command-click tool by holding command when selecting a tool from the dropdown menu (when pressing ESC, not the button on top right of arrange/edit window). Not a big deal, I know I can use the dedicated command-click tool dropdown menu to set my command click tool but I suppose its just really irritating and makes me feel like I'm missing something or doing something wrong. Love the book, I'm all about the [ -->TIP] in blue scattered throughout the chapters, pure gold. Thanks in advance for any help, thanks David for the awesome book. David Nahmani
I'm glad you're enjoying my book! And sorry you couldn't make that feature work. Let's first make sure we can rule out pilot error: Keep an eye on both tool menus at the top right of your Arrange area, they show you the current assignment for your left-click (1st menu) and for your Command-click (2nd menu) tools. While keeping an eye on those menus, press esc to open your toolbox at the pointer position. Left-click a tool in that menu: do you see it assigned to your left-click tool menu? Good. Press esc again, then hold down command, click a tool, then release your command key. You should see your new tool assigned to the Command-click tool menu. Doesn't work? What happens then? Does the tool get assigned to your left-click tool? Does it not get assigned at all? Do you see the esc-toolbox disappear?
JackFlash
Thanks for your response! Its definitely Pilot error, I've got it figured now. it seems I need to hold command, click desired tool and release click , without releasing command. When I do the method you describe it assigns the tool to the left-click tool. I am on a laptop not using a mouse, could this be problem?
David Nahmani
Yes, you always need to hold down the modifier until you release the mouse click. This is explained in details in the tip at the top of page 33.

ajw31
Belated follow up. When you set options like default left and right-click tools, Snap, etc (top right of the window), are these set at the Project or Logic level? Ideally I would like to set them at the Logic level, i.e. they stay the default for every new project. But Logic only seems to recognise them at the project level. Can they be set at the Logic level? PS. What's the name of your book, David? cheers ajw
David Nahmani
When you set options like default left and right-click tools, Snap, etc (top right of the window), are these set at the Project or Logic level? At the project level, in fact at the area/screenset levels - meaning each area in each screenset in each project can have its own left-click tool, its own command-click tool etc. Ideally I would like to set them at the Logic level, i.e. they stay the default for every new project. But Logic only seems to recognise them at the project level. Can they be set at the Logic level? No, but what you need to do is make a template: open an empty project, choose the desired tools for the desired area/screenset and choose File > Save as Template. Start all your new projects from that template.

David Nahmani
Oh yeah sorry I forgot the most important question!!! The book is actually in my signature - and in the middle one of the 3 boxes at the bottom of the main page of our site. But anyway you already have it. Thanks for the kind words!
