multible MIDI keyboards in logic

Hello,

My name is Bastiaan.

I have 3 midi keyboards connected to logic. Two via USB and one via my audio interface.

I want to control , lets say, Virtual instrument on track one with my keyboard nr. 1. VST on track two with my keyboard nr 2 and VSt on track 3 with my keyboard nr 3.

Now i already found the button on the left to change the mudi channel that is used as the input for the VSt. But still, even when i change it to channel 1 or 2 or 14 every keyboard makes a sound with the VSt.

How Can i set Keyboard 1 to send only signals to midi channel 1 and not 2-16?

The same for keyboard 2 and 3.

Thank you very much!

Ok i'va been working on setting all 3 keyboards up with one midi channel.

kb1 is midi channel 1

kb2 is midi channel 2

kb3 is midi channel 3

I've tried using this in kontakt4 and when i set midi channel on the left in arrangement window to ' all' and inside kontakt i choose the midi channel 1,2 or 3 it works!! see attachement

BUT I can't seem to figure out how to do this with other vst's like the ones provided by logic ( es1 etc ) There is no function inside the vst to change midi channel. see attachement

if i try setting midi channel to 1,2 or 3 ont eh left hand-side of the screen it doenst change anything. 1,5,8 or 16 , every keyboard plays the same instead of only one working

It all sounds very strange to me. i hope someone can help me. I have a show on thuesday and have to perform live with these 3 keyboards....

In your screenshots, see the Instrument parameters, where it says "MIDI Channel: All"..?

For instrument 1, set this to "1". For the second instrument, set it to "2" etc. Now the incoming MIDI on channel 1, from keyboard one, gets channelised to the software instrument on channel 1. Etc.

Hello Bastiaan,

Did you read the guide in the link posted by Jordito? It answers all your question and shows you how to control multiple instruments on multiple MIDI channels in 4 easy steps. Make sure you read them again and make each one of those 4 steps is completed properly. If it doesn't work, that most likely means you missed one of the 4 steps.

In the previous post, Beej' re-explained step #3, but really it's all in the linked guide.

Look. I followd all the steps. Maybe 10 times! It is correct according to the steps. But when I go left in the arrangement window and I want to use midichannel 1,2 or 3 all keyboards respond. Even thought there are sending there signal to only one midi channel. As you can see above, in kontakt 4 it works perfect.

Do you mean "even though they are sending their signals to three distinct MIDI channels, one specific channels for each synth"? That's step #2.

Try this: open a brand new, empty project, create 2 tracks, with two Logic internal instrument, for example ES1 and EVP88, and try to map 2 keyboards to those 2 tracks, following the linked guide.

If you cannot make this work, there's something you're doing wrong. Let us know, we'll have to figure this out together.

If you can make it work, then try to do it for 3 tracks, with 3 keyboard, it should work exactly the same way.

Hey Guys! Done all the above, and read the other topic posted above.

Its still not working for me! I have two keyboards that i wnt to play seperate instrument tracks. I have followed the steps changed the midi channels on the left and still both keyboards play both tracks, i know keyboards are submitting to only one channel, because when i hit a note on respective keyboards the midi channel is shown in the transport bar with the velocity.

Its like even when i change the channel on the instrument it stays on all? Anyone shed some light?

OK everything seems right... in case you haven't done this already:

When you play on each one of the MIDI keyboards, can you look at the transport bar's MIDI input display (it says "No in" when there's no incoming MIDI data) to verify that the first one is actually sending on MIDI channel 1 and the other on channel 2? That should be the first number to the right of the note icon.

Hey David, sorry for late reply have been on Holidays away from my studio, yes both transmit separate channels in transport bar,

still cant get them to work separately,

did some experimentation which led me to his, when i load up a Third Party Instrument, in this case a Korg M1 and select Midi Channel 2 in that instrument (not in logic), and still have midi channel set to all in logic, it plays only on the keyboard submitting channel 2. When i do this and switch the MIDI Channel in logic to channel 2 then, both keyboards work, and play Korg m1 inst,,,

This is the only progress i have made :(
