bpbpbp
Hi, I've tested 3rd party plugins with RAX and they load fine and the controls are available and all is fine. However, in Logic 9 and Mainstage 2, they load but the window is blank (black in colour) and nothing is available. It is affecting all 3rd party plugins. The only thing I can think of is I recently installed the latest SL update from Apple to 10.6.7.... Has anyone seen this before? I have repaired disk permissions and deleted all relevant pref files. bp
David Nahmani
If you restart the computer, does that resolve your problem?
bpbpbp
Yes sorry I should have stated that in the post. I've attached a screen capture of the issue. This happens on the insert and I/O buttons. Works fine in RAX. Image of macbook pro 10.6.7 with Logic 9.0.0 3rd party plugin issue
David Nahmani
Is it just for Vinyl or do you have the same problem even with the bundled Logic plug-ins?
bpbpbp
Hi David, This affects all 3rd party plugins/Kontakt/etc. Logic plugins work fine.
Jordi Torres
Try this: Locate the "com.apple.windowserver.plist" preference file in /Library/Preferences and move it to the desktop. Locate the "com.apple.windowserver.xxxx.plist" (where "xxxx" should be a combination of letters and numbers) in the ByHost folder inside ~/Library/Preferences (note that the "~" means your user Library folder). Move that file to the desktop. If there's more than one of those, move them all. Restart your computer and reset the PRAM. ("Practice" resetting the PRAM if you haven't done it before). If that fixes the problem, you can go ahead and delete the files you moved to the desktop. J.

Or is it just something related that might help? It's always good to note stuff that fixes some of these weird not-sure-whether-its-logic-or-my-system type things that crop up on some people's machines... Yes, it is interesting and hopefully it works. You see, I found this thread where user fchieli mentioned he fixed it by moving the ByHost folder to the desktop, without knowing exactly what in that folder was related to his problem. So I took a peek inside and found the com.apple.windowserver.xxxx.plist file. Turns out this file is mentioned in this apple troubleshooting article about video and graphics problems : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573 Probably worth a shot. J. beej
Nice! Thanks for that - will stick it in my troubleshooting folder!
Jordi Torres
The fact that the OP only gets the problem in Logic makes things a bit more complicated. We already know how to fix graphic glitches with Logic's own plugs...but 3rd party? J.
bpbpbp
I've tried all suggestions to no avail. I've noticed that if I open a new project, and only use Logic plugins, all is fine. Eg if I do CMD-A to select all parts in all tracks, this works fine a number of times. As soon as I load a 3rd party, eg addictive drums, sound hack etc, they load a blank screen and from then on, graphic response is delayed - CMD-A works but the display does not show them as being selected. Hitting Record also works, but the timeline does not move and I see no waveform. Only at the end of recording does it refresh. Very odd.
Jordi Torres
Sorry to hear it didn't work. What you describe in your latest post sounds all too weird to me. Do you have a backup of your system from before this started happening (Time Machine, clone)? J.
bpbpbp
I do have old backups... I'll archive off my post backup projects and give that a try. I assume I can restore only Logic? I'll have a look into it... Before I try that, should I give 9.1.1 update a shot?
Jordi Torres
Before I try that, should I give 9.1.1 update a shot? Definitely! What version are you currently running? 9.0? J.
bpbpbp
Strange. I ran the 9.1.1 upgrade package and it said "you do not need to install this update. I opened Logic and the version it shows in About is 9.0.0 (1660.11)

I opened Logic and the version it shows in About is 9.0.0 (1660.11) First of all, 9.0.0 is super-buggy. Did you move the app or renamed it? It should be inside the Applications folder and named "Logic Pro". J.
bpbpbp
I have "Logic Pro 9 Upg" at the root of Applications - I have not renamed it. There is also a folder named Logic Versions, with "Logic Pro 8" and "Logic Pro 9 vol lic"

bpbpbp
Ok so I renamed "Logic Pro 9 Upg" in Applicaitons, to "Logic 9" I then ran the 9.1.1 upgrade package from Apple, and this installed fine. I now have "Logic Pro 9.1.1" as well as "Logic Pro 9.0.0" I then uninstalled or manually removed all plugins (I didn't have many) as per their instructions. Logic still shows them on an AU Manager rescan, and in the menus, but they give an error message while trying to use them. So I deselect them. I install KingDubby plugin (http://www.lowcoders.fr/) and this works fine. I install Fuzzbox (http://www.audiodamage.com/downloads/product.php?pid=ADF001) and this has the blank screen I install soundhack suite of plugins, and they also load blank again Graphic response starts playing up again after trying a soundhack plugin. Eg, clicking and holding on insert no longer gives a menu, the arrange area flickers sometimes, the playhead does not move when in fact it is playing back etc. If I leave a blank plugin open, and save the project and reopen it, only the blank plugin window opens and not the rest of the application window :S I find it strange that King Dubby - a completely new plugin - works fine, but soundhack doesn't.
