EXS 24 - why are my samples behaving this way?

I'm perplexed

I've been building sampler instruments out of various audio that i'm chopping in the arrange and dragging into the exs 24 edit window...

all is working fine, i can fine tune the samples within the exs by clicking and opening in the sample editor..getting rid of clicks etc

save, save save

i come back to work on it the next day, project opens and plays perfect

i go to retweak some samples in the exs 24 -

and now, dragging the edit handles has NO effect on the sample??

trying to set up a looping sample...not working?

the sample plays fine, shows up in the sample editor when you double click - but all that type of editing i was able to do the day before in the exs 24, is not working??

where is the disconnect here?

any advice appreciated

OK I just did some tests and... I have the same problem! Maybe we're both missing something very obvious here?

In the Instrument editor, I choose "View > Zone:Sample" so I can see the sample values for that zone's Sample start and end. Then I click on the zone's menu button to the right, the menu pops open, and I choose "Open in Sample Editor". I then go to adjust the sample start/end in the "Region" raw below the waveform, and the sample start/end values in the Instrument editor don't change.

If I try to perform the same exact actions on a factory sampler instruments, then the sample start/end values in the Instrument editor change as expected.

 :?

Anyone can help with this?

I don't get that, if I open the zone in sample editor then move the blue region bars start & end point then the Zone:Sample updates accordingly. :?

EDIT: I tried this on my own sampler instruments as well as factory ones by the way.

Thanks ruari, did you try making your own sampler instrument and saving it with the song, saving and closing the song, reopening it, opening the sampler instruments, opening a sample and adjusting it?

That's this exact sequence of events that's not working as expected here.

Just tried that in an existing project, and everything works as expected. Changing the start and and end regions points in the sample editor has its values updated accordingly in the EXS Edit page. This for a newly created exs instrument.

Logic 913, OSX 10.6.7. MBP 2011.

Just guessing, maybe an authorization issue with the audio file in the HD?

Thanks ruari,

You're welcome

Yes, I took a loop then used the convert to new sampler track command, saved the song, shut down Logic, re-opened Logic & the song then opened the EXS24 edit window, opened a sample in the sample editor & moved the blue region bar. The zone:sample start is updated as expected.

I see Mehdi & I are on 9.1.3 could it maybe be a bug in earlier versions which has been addressed recently?

Thanks guys for your input....Well I'm still perplexed?

I am at 9.1.3

I went to this project again and now have realized this:

The EXS inst that i created, the one giving me problems...when I open the exs editor , and double click on a note to open it in the sample editor...the sample shows up, BUT! the bar underneath is GREEN...not BLUE in the REGION lane. (we have Anchor, Region, S.Loop right?) I know GREEN is for when your setting a loop and will show in the S.Loop "lane"...but my bar is GREEN...and is in the Region lane..?!?

Drag the ends around and...of course NO effect on the sample in the sample editor...

Does that shed any light?? Why Green on this instrument instead of Blue? The Loop box is NOT checked....

Where is my disconnect?

Thanks all
