webstersp
I'm still waiting for the new Imac to jump from mac to pc. Call me crazy but I already bought the logic Pro 9 apple pro training book from amazon! My band sound like: Story if the Year, The Used and I want to be able to record ur demo. I'm looking for a good audio interface for an Imac. I want the best mic preamp I can have. for my budget of 700$ max for the audio interface. We'll be recording each instrument one by one so I don't really need more than 2 inputs. We won't be using our drummer's real drum but we would like to use his roland V-Drum with SSD 3.5. so I would need midi. I already have an m-audio 2x2 midisport, would it work for tracking v-drum with SSD? Other infos: The mic I'm using for vocals is a Shure SM7b (just bought it never tried it but I know it needs lots of gain). I'll use my Blackstar HT 40 with sm57 and amp designer for guitar. Thanks all!
triplets
If you only need two inputs with no midi, the best interface for less than 700 is probably the new Duet 2 from Apogee.

Yes it would work for tracking vdrums, i use my alesis dm5 for tracking drums with SSD and i record the cymbals live and mix it all down it sounds really full
webstersp
So I guess that the cymbals sound in SSD don't sound great!? Are you tracking all cymbals at one time live? How many and wich mic are you using?
nmaison
well the cymbals are good on SSD, good for some replacement if needed, i just have the drummer play his/her actual set and i place triggers(piezo triggers i make) on each acoustic drum and then i mic the cymbals with Shure SM81 or another condensor, this is easier for the drummer to keep the sense of real instead of hitting the drum pads with a midi set, you can learn how to make your own triggers here http://www.toontrack.com/edrum_for_free.asp i made internal triggers and outside ones, they work amazingly i use about 4 mic inputs for the cymbals but you can get away with two if you use two well placed mics
