sozomuse
Can anybody point me in the right direction to find Thomas Dolby synth plug-ins or samples for the keyboard work he did for Foreigner's "Urgent" and "Waiting For A Girl Like You"? I've toyed with the ES2 and Sculpture and Googled for audio files but I'm coming up empty (or at a deficit if counting the results from the Logic instruments).javascript:emoticon('') Any help on programing or purchasing patches would be greatly appreciated! wjm
I know you're looking for a quick answer here, but I'm recommending you get Fred Welsh's book WELSH'S SYNTHESIZER COOKBOOK. In it he outlines how to use harmonic analysis to recreate patches that sound like other synths are even other instruments or FX. It sounds more complicated than it is. The great thing about this is that you'll never have to ask these questions ever again! With Fred's techniques and a solid subtractive synth like the amazing ES2 you can recreate just about any sound you want in no time. I've read a lot of books on synthesizer programming and still felt that recreating accurate patches was a bit of a guessing game until I got this book. Now it takes me 5 - 10 minutes to nail a patch whereas before it could take me hours to get something I could live with. BTW - I am not related to, nor do I even know Fred Welsh! http://synthesizer-cookbook.com/
sozomuse
wjm, you're right, a nice downloaded wav file would make me very happy, but - the Cookbook is an even better idea. I'll order it this weekend and I might even get the oscillator t-shirt Walsh offers along with the book. Ever since I moved into digital synths (D-50) from an Arp Odyssey years ago, programming sounds was not a requirement for me anymore; the plethora of patches available was always enough to suit any live situation. But since buying Logic 2 years ago and now just starting to use Mainstage live, the desire to learn the plugs and instruments has come back. Thank you so much for your reply and helpful suggestion. What a great forum! …but teach a man to fish...
