BadMojo
Long story short: Just recorded a band... Been here for 4 weeks now... The band got their own studio(8 hour drive from my home so I'm a happy camper). They use an apogee ensemble with Logic 9 and nothing more. So I brought my portable rack equipment with me, pre's, eq's and compressors etc and off course alot of mics. This is the first time I ever used Logic... Everything's been going great until yesterday... We finished the recordings thursday and I have a few days left before I'm going home. So the band wanted me to do some mixes. I'm not doing the final mixes but I'm up for whatever. If I'll do a great job maybe I'll get the gig next time. First of all I always use my Alan Smart compressor on the 2 bus. It worked until I had to solo the kick no sound at all. Tried solo safe the master bus but that didn't work. 1st question... What am I doing wrong? I couldn't work that way so I used Logic's own compressor for this task. All this got me worried so I slapped a distressor on the snare track. Same problem again, I can't listen to the snare track in solo. Then we have the latency... On the master bus I don't care... But on a seperate track! 2nd question... What's the best way to use external gear on seperate tracks? If I had just brought my own iLok I could've used Pro Tools 9. But I have no problem mixing in Logic even though it's my first time. And stock plugins are really great! Wow! If the external hardware issue is an easy fix then I'd buy logic. Sorry if this has been discussed many times before. Did some searches, tried... didn't solve it.
triplets
Did you use the I/O insert plugin under the Utility category?
BadMojo
Yes I did.

BadMojo
Read this: Logic Pro/Express: Solo does not work on channel strips that include an I/O plug-in J. Thanks alot! You just saved my day! Now I just have to figure out the latency issue, but I'm getting there.
Jordi Torres
Thanks alot! You just saved my day! You're welcome! Now I just have to figure out the latency issue, but I'm getting there. Set Plug-In Latency Compensation to All if it isn't already. The I/O plug-in has some latency compensating facilities as well. J.

Set Plug-In Latency Compensation to All if it isn't already. J. Yes it is... The I/O plug-in has some latency-compensating facilities as well. : Latency Detection ( Ping) button: Detects the delay between the selected output and input, and compensates the delay accordingly. Note: Bypassing any latency-inducing plug-ins on the track will provide you with the most accurate reading. Latency Offset field and slider: Displays the value for the detected latency between the selected output and input. Also allows you to offset the latency manually. J. BadMojo
I haven't solved the latency problem yet. I figured out the recording delay by doing this... Had one track, output set to output 9, recorded the signal on another track the input was set to input 9. Used expert sleepers latency fixer. Didn't do it... But then I realized when going in and out the signal gets phase reversed. http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=70787 So basically it's all ****** up anyway. Look like I'm not buying Logic anyway... Way too many problems! I use a lot of outboard gear... And honestly it doesn't look good. If I didn't have any outboard I would buy it tomorrow. But to skip mixing hybrid and do it all ITB instead... No way! I have spend to many dollars on outboard gear. What a bummer.... Cuz I really liked to work with it, the stock plugins are great, the audio engine does somethiing to the mix I really like.
Jordi Torres
Can you say which specific version of Logic is giving you these problems? J.
BadMojo
Logic 9 don't know which version. I'm not there now, we took some time off, been struggling for 13 hours straight now. I'm leaving tomorrow... And as it looks now I'm not going to pull it off.
shivermetimbers
Look like I'm not buying Logic anyway... Way too many problems! That's not a bad thing. You would be better off to wait and consider the next version of Logic (if it ever materializes). Logic does work with outboard gear, it takes time to learn Logic and a few more minutes fit it into your specific style of producing.
BadMojo
Last resort... Haha... Cant' even believe I thought of this.... it was the guitar player who mentioned it. We're now downloading the 9.1.3 update from the support site. I don't know if it will work though.

For the money earned this four weeks I think I'm buying the ensemble interface together with Logic anyway. I did the mixes all itb with the alan smart compressor on the 2 bus. The mixes turned out great! I'm loving logic. Well at least more than I did earlier today. I had some great plugins on my ilok that i forgot. But the stock plugins did it for me. The eq's great, the compressor's awesome and the tape delay plugin got some love too.
