indiskreet
I am running Logic 8(At work now, will get specific version in a few hours for you) OS X 10.5.2 Imac Intel Dual Core 2.8Ghz 4GB Ram 300 Gb drive, 7200 rpm M-Audio Ozonic Keyboard(sound card built in) I have been working on sound design projects for a film and up to this point, all my other saved sessions have had no trouble. I try to save my projects every few hours. The most recent session (the one with the most work on it) will not open. As it's loading, it loads all the audio tracks..and then "hangs" on a file named allbncdaudio1.717.aif. The main file I am using audio from in my projects is called allnbcdaudio1.aif so I am assuming this other file is from the audio bin. That said, I located allbncdaudio1.717.aif. in my "audio files" folder of my project. It is a 16kb aif file. It plays nothing in the quicktime player. So far, I have tried (suggestions online I saw for similar problems) Deleting the file from the audio files folder (still did not open) Disabling core audio (still did not open) Moving the session file to my desktop, disconnecting my externals with the session files, and trying to open it by selecting "skip all"... it skips all files except that one and just hangs. I also tried to find it manually and select it and that didn't work. Apple Care told me they don't do phone support for my version of Logic 8 since it's too old...and they referred me here as it's a more specific issue about a session and not the program itself. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Jordi Torres
Someone had an identical problem once, check it out see if there's something there you haven't tried...I remember just letting it hang and it eventually opened: Can't open project file b/c of corrupt audio file J. Hi Jordito. Will reread this link...though I forgot to mention 2 other things I tried... letting it try to open on it's own for 30 mins...and sending the session file to two friends to open on their computers...neither attempt worked. Still kept hanging.
Jordi Torres
I also tried to find it manually and select it and that didn't work. How did you manage to do this if the project never opened? letting it try to open on it's own for 30 mins...and sending the session file to two friends to open on their computers...neither attempt worked. Still kept hanging. I'm afraid that if that didn't work you're pretty much out of options....Well, If you know someone with Logic 9 you could try the selective track import feature. Editing that file out of the project (manually) using a text editor would probably be too risky (if even possible). I've never done it. J.
indiskreet
I also tried to find it manually and select it and that didn't work. How did you manage to do this if the project never opened? J. That's the odd thing. I can't say I know a lot about how Logic's filing system works...but the file it was searching for...which I'm assuming is also in the audio bin because of the way it was named and numbered like the others... was also by itself in the "audio files" folder of the project itself on my hard drive. So I copied it elsewhere just in case I needed it..and deleted it from the audio files folder...but that didn't change the outcome. As for someone with Logic 9, one of the two users who tried to open it had Logic 9 and it got stuck searching too. I guess I'm out of options, but I'd certainly like to try to find out why this happened as it's never happened to any of the hundreds of other sessions I've created. indiskreet
Jordito, would you mind if I uploaded the session file and see if you have any success opening it? Here's the file: Plastic042911.zip

Deleting the file won't fix the problem (as you have seen), because a reference to that file is saved in the project file itself. I guess I'm out of options, but I'd certainly like to try to find out why this happened as it's never happened to any of the hundreds of other sessions I've created. I'm talking about importing the contents of your proejct to a new project, using Logic 9's selective track import feature. J.

Here's the link...I wasn't sure if we can upload directly to this site. http://www.sendspace.com/file/y3oknl Sure, I'll check it out...but it's gonna have to wait until I get home...2 hours from now. Maybe someone else can get it open by then J.
ski
All of the following done with launching various versions of Logic with Core Audio disabled (hold CNTRL while launching): I tried opening this file on 8.0.2 with no luck. Perhaps if I waited long enough the file would have opened, but after 5 minutes I gave up. Then I tried opening it in 9.0.2. Same situation. Had to force quit. Next, created a new song in 9.0.2 and attempted to use the Import function. No luck, Logic hung up.

ski
Indeed. Sometimes letting a file like this cook for a long while is about the only thing you can do to determine if Logic requires a reasonably unreasonable amount of time will be required to access/open the file. ski
FWIW... I've found two reasons why files won't open correctly, and, which generate an error that reports "Logic Windows"... 1) corrupt markers (they seem to become corrupted quite easily and inexplicably in Logic 8.0.2) 2) attempts to open (some) Logic 9.x files in Logic 8.0.2 David, suggest trying this: • deleting the markers • removing all unused audio files from the bin (if any) • save under a new name, closing the project, opening it again (as if I need to tell YOU what to do )
David Nahmani
(as if I need to tell YOU what to do ) Well we may need as many brains as we can find for that one. Thanks for the ideas...! So far I was working on the assumption that the file AlltracksBnced1.717.aif was the culprit, but I removed all traces of that file in the Logic project file and it still hangs when loading. Sometimes letting a file like this cook for a long while is about the only thing you can do to determine if Logic requires a reasonably unreasonable amount of time will be required to access/open the file. I had to do it one time. No choice. My computer got crazy and wouldn't start (I posted the problem here at LPH). The solution was to boot from a clone. But even that seemed unresponsive. I left it and went and took a 4-hour nap. When I came back my desktop was there in front of me. Thank god for sleep J.

indiskreet
Guys, first off, thank you all for your help and suggestions. After spending 4 days on this and scouring all your posts and any other info I could find, I was at a dead end. I have absolutely no reason or explanation for what has happened in the last 30 mins...but after my last post here, I decided to 1)Delete the audio bin file that somehow found its way into the audio files folder of the project (in there all by itself), moved the session to my desktop(after disconnecting my externals with the session date, tried opening it on the desktop and pressed skip all..still got hung up. Then I moved the session file back into it's original spot, reconnected the externals, and tried to open it...let it run for over 90 mins...came back..and the session had opened. I immediately deleted that file out of my audio bin, resaved it under 5 different names for backup..and now I'm up and running. I have no explanation....the only thing I tried this time was doing ALL the suggestions together instead of just one at a time. Again, thank you all for your help! Jordi Torres
Oh, good...I got it open too...after 30 minutes Letting it marinate does the trick. Deleted the "AlltracksBnced.717" file and now it opens right away. Good advice to avoid this happening is to clean up. Your audio bin is just insane! Merge! Select and delete unused, etc... J.
