Routing a midi track to an insert

Hey guys,

I want to add a reaktor insert to the main output chan and control reaktor with my keyboard controller.

I don't really know how to go about doing it...

I assume that I need to create a midi track and some how route it into the insert. This should allow me to record my midi events but routing it to the insert is a no go.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Create a track with the main output (stereo output, or, output 1/2, depending on what version of Logic you're running) and when that track is selected, MIDI from your controller will feed that channel. As for what MIDI messages you need to control it, that's something you'll have to consult the documentation for Reaktor.

Now, here's a way that can create a separate track to record controller data on:

In the environment, create a monitor object from the New menu. Cable it to the Stereo Output (main output). Rename the monitor using the text tool if you want.

Then assign the monitor to a new track and select that track when you want to control Reaktor with your controller. Now, there may be a bit more to it than just that, but that'll definitely get MIDI to that output.

I've never tried this with Reaktor, but typically when you need to route MIDI data to an Audio processing plug-in in Logic, the routing is:

Use the plug-in as an instrument plug-in on a software instrument track. All MIDI data on the track will reach the plug-in. You route the audio (from another track) using the plug-in's sidechain input.

So you would have to set the output of all your tracks to a bus, and that bus is now your "summing bus". If you decide to keep the Aux that Logic automatically creates for that bus, make sure you set its output to "No Output". That bus is the sidechain setting for Reaktor. The Reaktor track is routed to your Stereo Out.

David, FWIW, I've got some plugins that have "FX" versions (such as the Korg MS-20 and XLIIS) which can be instanciated as an insert effect as opposed to an instrument which requires the signal to be side-chained.

Also, if a synth or sampler-type plugin is being used as an FX processor, it would require that at least one key be held down to pass the sidechained audio through it's amp section. Now, I'm not familiar with Reaktor, though I know it's quite complex and flexible, and maybe there's a way to keep the amp section open so that audio can pass freely through the plugin when it's getting there via a sidechain input.

Cheers,

Ok i got it.. THis may have been exactly what you said but i had to stumble onto it.

I had to 1st create a bus and route all the instruments that i wanted to apply the finger to (reaktor ensamble).

Then I had to create a new software instrument, make reaktor the input, put a send on bus 10 (number doesnt matter)

Turn down the aux and it worked.

.... right. But then you can't route any MIDI data to that plug-in, right? AFAIK Logic cannot route MIDI data to a plug-in other than an instrument plug-in.
