matan89
hy guys! my todays question is : Can I create a group within a group? I have looked it up in the manual but didn't find the answer there. I would like to group my toms into lets say group 1 and then i would like to group them within my drum group which is lets say group 2. Is it possible? I know it can be done in protools but i didn't figure it out in Logic :/
ruari
Are you talking about Sampler Instruments? Where you assign your toms to a group then assign that group to a voice group? I think that can't be done with the EXS24. Of course, you may not be talking about Sampler Instruments as your question is a bit cryptic…
matan89
hey! no, I'm not talking about exs nor sampling. i have 12 tracks of drums, i want to group the 3 tracks of toms and after that i would like to group all of the 12 drum tracks. protools has a neat way of doing it and i am curious if logic is capable of such grouping cheers
Eric Cardenas
Option - Shift - click on the channel strips that you want to have two groups, in this case the toms.
Eriksimon
So you make the groups and then you make the groups to group the groups? Easier done than said!

camillo jr
One of the things about double grouping is that it seems like you need one channel from one of the groups that is independent. IE, say you have this set-up: Channels 1 - 3 in Group 1 (muting and soloing enabled) Channels 4 - 5 in Group 1 & 2 (muting and soloing enabled) Now if I want to solo only channels 4 and 5, the first three channels will also solo. To get around this, I need to have another channel set like this: Channel 6 in Group 2. Now I'll get the solo behaviour I want but I have to solo channel 6 to get 4 and 5 to solo without bringing Channels 1 - 3 into it. Is this the expected behaviour? Of course! You are soloing group 1 aren't you? The way I do it is to disable Group one in the "group window".

I was engaged in some "magical thinking" there by assuming one overlapped group would ignore the other. Disabling the group you don't need is a good idea.
