David Nahmani
I'm in love with this performance of Adele: If only the BBC hadn't censored the word "Ship" at 0:20. It's not the first time I hear censorship abuse on radio/TV but this one really pisses me off. Can't they read the lyrics before the broadcast? Ask the artist or the manager if the performance contains any cuss words?
David Nahmani
Wait... or does it really say ship or....? OK I'm confused.
Jordi Torres
Really nice, I didn't know this woman... Looks like the censured word is actually part of the lyrics. J.
David Nahmani
Yeah it is but I can't figure out what she says in the original lyrics... I guess you have to buy the album to know, as if her album says s#!+ they would clearly re-record her saying ship instead for the radio version. I hate censorship. That Cee-Lo Green video isn't even available on YouTube unless you sign up. And the radio version in the U.S. says "Forget you".
David Nahmani
Really nice, I didn't know this woman... That's because she was just born a few years ago. I mean, seriously, she was 21 when she recorded that song.
ruari
The opening lyrics are: There's a fire starting in my heart,Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark, Finally, I can see you crystal clear, Go ahead and sell me out and a I'll lay your s#!+ bare, See how I'll leave with every piece of you, Don't underestimate the things that I will do, If it was ship then that wouldn't make any sense, it reminds me a bit of that song a few years back where everyone would sing "I kissed a girl & I liked it, tastes just like cherry chopsticks"
Eriksimon
This indiscriminate censoring is, well, completely baffling. In this context it simply isn't a swearword... Anyway, substituting 's#!+' with 'mess' would be a "decent" alternative. Doesn't take a genius to come up with that... Killing people with unmanned drones is perfectly okay, using a word that refers to the most common and natural bodily secretion in the biological word is not done... to me it is clear that human morality is still in a very early (=primitive) stage of development... Alan Shields
"War is heck" - is the quotation that comes to mind Eric. In other words, I've no qualms about sending thousands of young men & women off to their deaths and perhaps the same number of civilians will lose their lives but I'm not going to use the word hell in public. I hate that hypocrisy and I have a distaste for censorship however I don't want to start a debate on the issue so I'll just say that both my Daughters are big fans of Adele so I've been hearing quite a lot of her stuff lately. She's a very talented singer. Alan
ruari
Well, I'm wandering just who did the censorship because it was broadcast at 10pm which is after the watershed in the UK. This means you can say practically anything you like. If you listen to the song in the video then the whole sound is cut, if it was done by the BBC I think they would either just cut the vocal or reverse the word which would sound more seamless. Let's not march to the BBC offices to voice our annoyances just yet…
Eriksimon
I'm not blaming the BBC, on the contrary, it is one of the most tolerable broadcasters in this neck of the woods - NO COMMERCIALS!!!!

Andyreww
It's fairy difficult to make out the word in the official video: Self censorship to a degree? One thing that has to be remembered about the BBC is that although they have the watershed many programmes that are pre-recorded do not have an official time slot. Therefore censoring may occur before the show is scheduled.

louisgab
It still almost sounds like "s#!+" so what's the point of censoring it!?...at least like Erik said, use an appropriate word like "mess" to keep in context! or even better don't censor! ibt
Here's a bit of background from Adele's producer Paul Epworth on how Rolling In The Deep was recorded Interesting/funny description of how the step-stamping sound was recorded, vs. the alternative of using a sample and spending 8 hours trying to decide "Is that the right step-stamping sound??" Beat Poet
There was a Silversun Pickups performance of Lazy Eye on Jimmy Kimmel where they muted the line "it's so fun to relate". The iTunes festival is the worst for censorship, even words like "drugs", "strung out" and "drunk".

I don't get why a channel who has a problem with saying swearing, would want to broadcast a song titled 'f*%@ You' and try to make it fit. I also love Cee-Lo. Who doesn't. But he went ahead and recorded the 'Forget you' version himself. He censored himself, and for that, I lost a lot of respect for him
qtruck
On VH1 they cut the words 'gun' and 'bullet' from Foster The People "Pumped Up Kicks." Ridiculous.
