djed19
have G5 and a Motu HD192, the keyboard I'm using with Logic is a Roland fantom. I have no problem hearing the sounds from my Roland as an external instrument thru my monitors. However If I want to hear the sounds from my Roland through Logic via built in audio using headphones I hear nothing. Is there a way around this? Thanks, Djed19
triplets
Are you on Logic 8? If yes, you have to create an aggregate device in Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup to be able to separate output and input in Logic

Thanks man I will give it a shot!!
triplets
In Logic 9 you can separate input and output from within Logic's preferences. In Logic 8 you have to create the aggregate device and then select that in Logic.

Leopard http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1215 Snow Leopard http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3956 I tried it however I still cannot hear my Roland in headphones I'm sure its user error. I will continue to work at it, or buy Logic 9. Thanks again, Djed19
David Nahmani
Make sure your headphones are listed first in the aggregate device, so its outputs are 1-2.
djed19
Make sure your headphones are listed first in the aggregate device, so its outputs are 1-2. I made the headphones first in the aggregate device, and still no luck. Also besides making the headphones aggregate, should I also make my Roland or MotuHD192 aggregate? Its it possible you can send me a screen shot of what it should look like, I have tried everything still no luck Thanks, Djed19
David Nahmani
I made the headphones first in the aggregate device, and still no luck. Try opening an empty project, open the loop browser and preview a loop. Can you hear it in your headphones? If not, that's the first thing you need to fix. You need to figure out what ouptut numbers are your headphones in your aggregate device. Then you can choose those numbers in Logic's Preferences > Audio > I/O Assignments > Output (under Stereo output), or better yet, just make sure they are 1-2 so you don't have to change your Logic preferences. Thanks I'm on Logic 8, I do not see I/O Assignments > Output (under Stereo output). Does it make a difference? Also I only have 2 in and 2 out, I do not have 1-2? Yes, that's only in Logic 9. I see your point however I thought it would be easier to USB keyboard thru USB MIDI interface. The Motu doesnt have a headphone jack which sucks. Just to be clear I can hear logic synths in headphones no problem, just can't hear Roland. Thanks, Djed19

Yes we are on the same page now, I was expecting the sounds from the Roland to go through the midi connection into Logic. Actually I can hear the sounds from Roland thru my monitors I can record the sounds as well on logic. My only problem is that I cannot hear the sounds from Roland in headphones through logic. I can only hear the preset instruments in logic. Shouldn't I be able to hear both? Do I need a mixer or something? Thanks Djed19

David Nahmani
It needs to be enabled if you want to hear anything through Logic (any rec-armed track or input monitoring track).
ski
Yes we are on the same page now, I was expecting the sounds from the Roland to go through the midi connection into Logic. Just to clarify... MIDI cables don't carry sound. They only carry MIDI data. The sound comes from your Roland via its audio outputs.
djed19
What happens if you enable it? J. nothing same deal. I guess its impossible to hear Roland sounds through headphones. The headphones are plugged into Mac. I should have gotten a sound card which I could plug headphone into. The Motu HD192 is not what I need I messed up on that. I appreciate everyone's help on this. I'm calling it quits. Thanks again guys I learned a lot though.
David Nahmani
I guess its impossible to hear Roland sounds through headphones. It is possible, but first you'd have to connect the audio outputs from your synth into your MOTU so Logic can get the audio of your synth. In any case, it is definitely easier to work with a single audio interface (which has a headphone out if you need one) than with an aggregate device or two different devices for input and output. e.akell
So I'm puzzled...when I bounce down my audio in Logic Pro 9 to MP3 it only plays through my headphones when playing it from a mobile phone, but it plays fine from any other device???? Any advice???
