tafoz
I am running Logic 9 with Virus TI Snow and an Apogee Duet. I have been using the Virus sound card to bounce virus sounds to audio on logic 9 but want to record the audio through the apogee sound card. How do I do this? I have tried but cant seem to monitor the sound. What is the best setup? Also does anyone know if it will make much difference in sound quality using the Apogee sound card as opposed to the Virus? David Nahmani
How do I do this? I have tried but cant seem to monitor the sound. What is the best setup? Audio outs from Virus to Audio ins on your audio interface. Create a new audio track set for those audio inputs, record enable it and press record. Also does anyone know if it will make much difference in sound quality using the Apogee sound card as opposed to the Virus? I suppose you should try to tell for yourself, but yes, you will have distortion and degradation due to the use of D/A at the output of the Virus, analog connections and circuitry, and A/D on the interface. Whether or not you like that distortion is up to you.
ruari
I have been using the Virus sound card to bounce virus sounds to audio on logic 9 but want to record the audio through the apogee sound card. Is there any particular reason you don't use the USB audio from the TI?
tafoz
Thanks for the reply, can get sound in and now monitor it. The problem was having the virus connected via usb to logic. However I am getting a nasty loud hiss in the background when record enabled and playing the virus. How can I get rid of this? Is there any particular reason you don't use the USB audio from the TI? I have been using the USB audio but wanted to try using the apogee sound card to see if there is a better quality. Thanks

janiq
i can only recommend running virus through your sound card. you can get good quality recording using virus usb but you need dedicated usb input in your pc/mac otherwise you will get noise, cracking issues all the time (they are subtle but you can still hear them)... there should not be big difference in a quality as virus is a 24 bit audio interface the only thing i have noticed is that the usb output is really quiet comparing to running it through audio outputs. tafoz
I have experimented with the apogee and virus sound card now and eventhough I am getting an undesirable hiss from recording through the apogee it is definately far better than the virus sound card. There is a lot more detail in the sound, now I know what all the fuss is about. I must still be doing something wrong it can't have this noise all the time? Does anyone have any ideas of how to reduce this noise?
Ldizzy
simple knowledge about proper gain staging could help u im sure.. even if u only have a few steps from ur sound source to ur final destination... id say boost the volume of the output early on, lessen the volume in the soundcard... use quality wires... make sure it doesnt peak anywhere... and make tests...
