Requesting input on my work, both creatively and technically

These songs range from newest to oldest, top to bottom. If you sample them from bottom to top, you will get a better concept of my progression in Logic. The bottom three I did in 8, with a cheap ART preamp plugged direct. I later got a Presonus Audiobox and Tubepre, as well as Logic9 and I still run guitar and bass direct, but my ESP Eclipse has a life of it's own. All drums are programmed with Superior Drummer's Metal Foundry. I have only been using DAWs for about a year and a half, but I've been playing music in general since puberty, so I still have much to learn. I will be grateful for any input. Also note, that the bottom two songs are obviously not properly mixed, and it took me forever to figure out how to multi-out the drum program, so they are in stereo, which sounds, well you be the judge. I use a Peavy Studiopro condenser mic for all vocals. For a reference on style and influence, I listen to a lot of Opeth, David Bowie, System of a Down, Devo, and Gwar.

I like your music, the songs are well constructed.

In terms of sound, (please understand that I am very new to recording so my thoughts are pretty much worthless) I'm not too crazy about the rhythm guitar sound. I think the bass needs to a bit more prominent too.

I'm almost embarrassed to comment considering how poor my own recording quality is.

All in all, good stuff man. All the best.

You know what? I just listened to your stuff on Reverb, and your guitar sound is amazing. Creatively and dynamically your sound is great, builds are just right, and breaks are in the right spot. And I'm only judging your top song, and am very excited to hear the rest. You almost sound like Opeth and Dethklok, and at the same time being your own. Actually, that comedic piano break in the second song, genius. Anyway, what do you recommend for a better guitar sound as far as plugging direct? I'm just using the amp designer in Logic, with a little compression and hi-pass filter, as well as bussing to a reverb channel. I'm also recording all this stuff in my bedroom. I double all guitars and try to give everything it's own space in the mix. To be honest, I don't know snakes from dildos about recording, but I know more that most in my area, so I'm doing my damned best to at least convey my ideas as clearly as possible. Then I hear something like your music, and rethink my entire process. I would be grateful for and tips or advice you have to offer.

Thanks for listening to my humble music, I really appreciate it. Thanks also for your kind comments. I don't get alot of feedback on my work so it's nice to hear someone enjoyed it.

I recorded the rhythm guitars for Abject Tomorrow and Psychedelic Torture Trip in Guitar Rig 3. I recorded 4 layers with 2 panned hard left and 2 panned hard right. I don't know anything about compression so I didn't use any but I believe I fiddled with the EQ a little bit to "scoop" the sound. I don't like it so much, I find it to be too raspy and lacking in power.

I spend hours on the drums and I program each note. It's a massive headache with the complexity of some of the parts but I find it helps me get the parts I want for the track.

I really like your songs and I think you have a great voice. Really dig the lead playing too. Can't wait to hear some more.
