Electro Pop...! Presets Owl City Synth Leads

Recommended Posts

Liked the clean, mini-Casio quality of the ES P ones. I'd turn down the overdrive on the second one though, it's a bit too loud played polyphonically.

The EFM 1 presets have pretty harsh timbre. Try deselecting the carrier wave button and tweaking the frequency of the second wave to get a less atonal sound.

The ESM patch would make a great lead. Personally, I tend to eliminate volume decay for that use, but that's just a personal preference.

On the ES1 patch you could increase the mod envelopes level and decrease it's attack time for more movement on the sustained notes. Adding a chorus effect (bottom right corner) would fill out the stereo, but that's something people often do in the plugin because of the ability to control the chorus' parameters. I like the little touch of the subtle, randomized LFO on the cutoff, it adds to the analog feel quite well.

Just one small caveat with the ESE patch, which I otherwise like: having the release at absolute 0 instead of something really really fast as well, like say 1.5 ms or even less, adds a slight but noticeable click/pop sound to the end of the notes. Upping the release time just the slightest gets rid of it while retaining the very sharp, quick feel.

All in all, some decent stuff. I haven't listened to Owl City beyond a couple of his radio hits but these patches are definitely appropriate for recreate his synth-pop feel. The ES 1, ES P, and ES E instruments are all really great for that genre.
