HayronW
I saw some threads that talked about installing the Logic sample libraries on an external hard drive but none of them talked about how to do so. Therefore, how do I go about moving the sampled libraries on an external hard drive. All of my projects are already on another hard drive but I want to include more plugins that look like they would easily eat up almost 1/3 or my hard disk space (which means I'll have to figure out how to install those plugins or those libraries on the external hard drive too) Any help is greatly appreciated. ski
How you do this totally depends on the plugin. For many of them you can simply move the files from one drive to another; then you open an instance of the plugin and tell it where the libraries now live (i.e., Kontakt and E/W Play). For other libraries, there will be a separate library app that you use to point it to where the files live after you move them (i.e., Vienna Instruments). To be on the safe side, do a COPY operation (simply drag the folders/files over to your other HD) instead of a MOVE operation (accomplished by holding down CMD while you drag the folders/files) so that in case something goes wrong you still have an intact copy on the originating drive. And of course, the external drive has to be formatted for MacOS. Suggest that any drive you buy, whether it's preformatted for Mac or not should be freshly formatted (with journaling off) before installing files on it. peeb
Why formatted with journaling off Ski?
David Nahmani
Why formatted with journaling off Ski? Typical formatting is: - journaling ON on system drive - journaling OFF on media drives Journaling off gives a slightly better drive performance. HayronW
Thanks for the replies especially on the Journalling. I was about to free up about 50 gigs...which is good because now I can install the Spetrasonics stuff and then see how I can move those libraries to my ext HD
