Mixing Newbie/tips/ Acoustic music

Hi guys.

So i'm still very much a beginner when it comes to mixing/mastering. But i think i have gotten better from watching youtube clips and looking around these forums.

I've just finished mixing/mastering one of my own songs and was wondering what people thought of the mix. Any ideas/criticism is welcome. Most of the track is just guitar and vocals its not until the end where things start getting complicated. But heres the track--

Thanks for taking the time if you listen.

Hey Joe, nice to see another Bristolian on here!

Sounds pretty good to me, I really like your singing, especially how you don't americanize your accent. The guitar needs a bit more sparkly high-end I reckon, but listening to your other tracks I wonder that could be to do with your recording equipment/room. Is the guitar done with just one mic? The accordian (is it accordian?) at the end is a bit loud, think I'd like to hear it doing more than just sustaining chords too, but that's just me. Overall it seems perhaps too compressed for the instruments involved.

You've got some really cool picking patterns and rhythms going on in your tracks. Do you gig in Bristol?

That sounded like a pretty pro mix to me! I'm a newbie too so I can't help you with tiny things that might be there, but I really enjoyed the song.

Thanks for listening, glad you liked the song! There is so much to learn with mixing, i wish i knew it all!

Hey thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, really appreciate it! Yeah i only have one cheap dynamic mic that i use to record guitar on, and i do it all in my very small bedroom. But i think il go back an try put more high on it.

No it's not an accordian just some logic trumpets. I had real trouble trying to get it to come out through the mix and maybe thats why it's to high. I will go back an tinker with it. I was thinking about making it do more than chords, but then i thought I've already got a few things doing different melody's at the same time and i didn't want to over crowd it. I'll have a little play with it an see.

I had been doing some gigs in Bristol this summer with this girl. But things didn't work out and now we aren't playing together anymore so i've gone back to my bedroom! but i'm thinking about trying to get more again on my own maybe. Do you play around Bristol?

Thanks again mate

Maybe just have them back up some of the melodies already going on?

Sometimes, if you see Snorkelhead advertised anywhere, that's me and my friend in our odd-ball guitar/synth duo.

Thanks again mate
