ansthenia
Hi everyone I purchased Sonivox strings for Kontakt, which sound fantastic. It contains separate samples for down bow and up bow, but none that automatically switch between them. Is there a way for me to load 2 instruments into the same channel (in this case a down bow and an up bow sample) and make it so it switches between them every note? Thanks for your time
fader8
Yes, it's possible. You need to set up a round robin in the instrument. The up samples need to be in a different group from the down samples. I'm sure they probably already are. Use the group editor and make sure "Edit All Groups" is disabled. In the Group Start options, set the Group Starts parameter to round robin and assign the 2 groups to a different position in the round robin. That's it! ansthenia
So I can't get this to work. I load both "legato down bow" and "legato up bow" into Kontakt. Set them both to: Output: st.1 Midi Ch: [A] 1 I disable edit all groups for both and then assign up-bow to "Position in round robin chain - 1" and down-bow to 2, however it doesn't do anything and they both play every note at the same time. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again for your help
fader8
You will need to combine the two instruments into one. Round Robin will not work unless all the groups are in the same instrument. Copy the group(s) from one and paste them into the other, then save that a a new single instrument. Now edit each groups round robin assignment. ansthenia
Hi Thanks I got it, it works great Just one more question: Is it possible to make sure it always starts on one group? because say I write a melody that ends on a up-bow and I want the next part to start on an up-bow, I can't because the next note after an up-bow will always be a down-bow. Can you reset it so that it always starts on this same one if you haven't played something for a while? I hope you understand my question... fader8
Glad to hear that worked out for you. I was afraid there may be some odd scripting that might interfere or cause other problems. Some sample players do have a round robin reset, but Kontakt does not. I've seen some clumsy scripts for it but I wouldn't recommend them. Here's how you can do it pretty easily though, and more reliably I think. If you want to start always with an upbow, duplicate the upbow group and name it Start Upbow or something. This won't be in the round robin. Set the Group Start for this group to a controller, like cc1 between 64 and 127. For the groups in the round robin, set them up as I'm showing in the pic attached. So when you kick your mod wheel high, you'll hear only the upbow sample, and with the modwheel low, it goes back to where it left off in the round robin on the next note. You can record the modwheel as you play live, or just sequence in a track manually.
