christo4
Hi' i have been running logic 8 on my old g4 powerbook laptop and on a three year old imac. I am about to buy a new Imac and want to load Logic onto it. Do i need to remove Logic from one of my older mac in order to use it on the new mac? From memory i registered logic on the laptop but not on the imac. Is it worth loading logic onto an external HD so i can transfer it between macs? cheers
gdoubleyou
You don't have to remove it. The software is registered to your apple ID. For logic to operate correctly, the external drive must also contain OSX, and you wil have to boot from the drive also. 8)
triplets
Remember that if you're buying a brand new iMac, it will come with Lion. There's some issues with Lion and Logic 8. But there's a thread here in the forum that shows you how to make it work. You gonna have to reinstall Logic since it's machine specific, you cannot just copy it over. Backup your custom settings, channel strips and templates from the User/Library/Application Support folder, if you created any.

christo4
Was actually thinking of buying my new mac second hand from a graphic designer friend who is still running S/Leopard. The imac is one yar old and has 8 gig of ram and a very good video card..I've heard tiger is unstable still.
fusbur
Might be worth remembering that you won't be able to use all 8Gb of RAM in 32 bit mode (only 4Gb). Can't remember now if Logic 8 can run in 64 bit or not now. Perhaps someone can remind me?

Migration assistant worked fine to take Logic 8 from my G4 tower to iMac, just had to enter my serial number the first time I opened Logic on the iMac. christo4
Do You think its worth waiting for logic 10 (must be out soon...) and then buying a new imac with lion rather than trying to install logic 8 onto a new mac. I cant see the point of upgrading to logic 9 when it offers only a few good advances from 8. The only reason i want to upgrade my system is because i want to get Komplete 8 which wont run on 10.5. You're one of the lucky few where Logic migration didn't mess things up. Clean install of Logic is always safer.
