One firewire port , two firewire products?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm about to replace my old 2007 white Imac 24 with a new 2011 model Imac. I have noticed that new imacs now only have one firewire port. I currently use a metric Halo 2882 firewire device and a 7200 Lacie firewire hard drive for streaming my sample library. Is it possible to daisy chain the MH with the Lacie .

Or cis a hub the way to go?????

also will Thunderbolt be a new way of connecting a hardrive?

I also have the new iMac with only one FW800 port. I have a LaCie external drive off it and then a 'flying' FW800 cable daisy-chained off that, usually for a LaCie portable FW800 drive.

I'm looking forward to being able to use an external drive on Thunderbolt for sample libraries when available at a reasonable price.

can you explain what a flying' FW800 cable daisy is ????

....A 'flying' cable is when you have a cable connected to the computer's port but it's free to connect various peripheral devices as and when needed.

FW = FireWire.

A Daisy-chain is an ongoing connection stringing more than one device together. Device > cable > device > cable > etc
