Advice needed regarding OS system / upgrading logic

Hi,

I have just purchased a new mac mini to do my audio recording with which is obviously running Lion. I have now bumped into the problem of installing my version of Logic Studio which contains Logic Pro 8 which I bought as an upgrade from Logic Pro 7 so I still have a USB dongle.

After reading through some forums I have become aware of some of the problems as I currently cannot install the software and get the impression it won't be stable even if I do.

So could someone kindly tell me whether the latest version of Logic Studio is perfectly stable on Lion or are people still waiting for a new version? The other question I have is will I be able to buy an upgrade despite the fact I require the Pro 7 dongle to install my current version of Logic Studio? I have been using a pc for the past year so a bit out of touch. Rather frustrated with the situation but then I did not do enough homework first before going back to Mac. I don't mind buying the upgrade but at present am not certain if it will work? I also hope that 3rd party plugins are going to work (I use Altiverb by Audioease)

All of my recording is audio based as I am recording string instruments so I am not too concerned about midi for the moment. I will be running it through an Apogee Duet 2 (once I find a way to actually get Logic installed/running.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Simply put.. I am using Lion 10.7.2 and Logic 9.1.5 and as my audio/midi interface has Lion compatible drivers and all of the plugins I use on a regular basis in Logic, have been updated to 64bit (and the few that haven't, work ok using the 32bit-64bit 'wrapper' provided in Logic) then I'm having no real issues of note.

Only thing I'd recommend, for the time being at least, is not to run Lion in full screen mode.. It's a bit flaky so I'd wait until Logic gets a further update before using that functionality.

So to sum up... if your audio/midi interface has bee updated to use with Lion (You didn't mention which one, if any, you have) then you should be ready to go...

However, you need to read this thread.. to get Altiverb 6 to work with Lion...

..as currently it is unsupported (but with a real update coming soon...) but the fix at the latter end of that thread, worked for me.

Many thanks for the reply. I did mention the audio interface (Duet 2) which I believe should work fine.

I had read on a couple of forums of people having to re-insert the USB dongle for the Logic Pro 7 - upgrade each time they started up Logic 9 in Lion, do you know if by chance this is still the situation? If things work fine then I will buy the upgrade but if not would wait until something changes.

Thanks again.

Sorry.. missed the bit about your Duet and yes, should be fine I believe.

As for inserting the key every time.. I have read a couple of people who had to do that but I have several clients who have upgraded from 7 to 9 and that wasn't an issue for them at all.
