hi all. imac (2010), i3, 8gb ram, logic pro 9 with Native Instruments Kontakt and cineorch plugin. I want to automate the mod wheel but theres a list of about 200 different numbers for the kontact automation commands and none of them are labled, anyone know what midi channel number the mod wheel is on please? im also trying to switch on an instrument within kontact on the layers hopefully this makes sense im writing this whilst on a train on a mobile phone so apologies for badly worded post!

cheers

Hi

A little tip for you; when you are unsure which CC# to use in Kontakt, open the browser click the Auto tab then MIDI Automation.

When you turn your knob/wheel/whatever a little red lightening bolt will appear next to the CC# being received, once you know which one it is simply drag that no. & drop it on the parameter you wish to automate.

The answer is CC# 1 by the way.

I don't really understand the 2nd part of your question, think of how you can better word it then start a new thread - keep it one topic per thread #4 of the forum guidelines.

If i understood the second part of your question correctly.....

In Kontakt, to add another instrument as a layer..(or Combi as they are called in Kontakt) Simply double click on the instrument you wish to add and it will add itself to the current single instrument changing everything to a combi... You can add more and more instruments to make more complicated combis if you wish.

Then you might also need to change the midi setting for that newly added instrument to Omni or Channel 1 so both the original instrument and the newly added one can be heard at the same time when you press a single key on your controller...

If you want them to play different notes then you will need to setup a multi-timbral instrument in Logic when you create the track using the new track dialog box that pops up when you create a new track... and then use different midi channels for each instrument in the combi to match up with the different tracks the multi-timbral setting in track create dialog box creates.

It sounds more complicated than it really is.. Just try it out and you will soon get it...

If you're trying to access different articulations, Cineorch has keyswitching for some and assignable cc for others. I don't recall any cc's being assigned by default. I don't have the plug-in but I was helping a student with theirs a while back.

Hi

Cineorch has 3 patches for Kontakt. All default to having Dynamics set to MIDI CC1, though this can be changed (see image below)

You have several choices regarding working with MIDI CC info:

Simply record it in realtime using your MIDI controller

Create the MIDI CC events using Hyperdraw, which is available in the Arrange, Piano Roll and Score

Create using HyperEdit

(I guess you could also do it in the Event List.... but....)

You could also convert the data to Track-Based automation and work with that (see this discussion http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=71842)

got it. thankyou ever so much! im finding it hard to draw by hand, so im attempting to get a midi controller control it and record it real time. if i record over the take and use the mouse to record the modulation wheel in real time, it doesnt record what ive done in real time, is there a way to make it do this?, and how would i go about assigning a midi controller to the mod wheel in kontact? (apologies for this post going on for a long time now!)

cheers to all responses on this

Hi

If you are trying to use the Mod wheel directly within the Kontakt interface, this is not going to work. (see 1st pic below)

Ideally, you would use a hardware controller (your MIDI keyboard Mod Wheel if it has one, or some other hardware device). You could also use your iPhone/iPad etc. via some Apps.

If you need to do this "with the mouse" within Logic, you could create a Fader object in the Environment (New: Fader) (Clicks and Ports layer, insert it somewhere between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input objects, and set the output parameters to MIDI CC1. (see second pic below)

cool, thanks for that ill give that a go in a sec. ive got a line 6 pod x3 (via usb) and a yamaha p95 (via midi). the yamaha keyboard doesnt have any controllers on it, and i cant get the midi learn function to accept the line 6 pod buttons for some reason (anyone know how i can get my pod to act as a midi controller?), when i turn on the pod, logic recognizes it as a soundcard but thats it. ill give the other methods a go for now, thanks again

A quick glance at the manual suggests: No

There's boatload of cheap and cheerful MIDI controllers available that might be worth talking to Santa about ;-)

Or, if you have an iPhone etc.. there are plenty of Apps that could do it.
