No sound out

Ciao everyone

I just started using Logic Pro and I seem to be unable to get any sound out. I did this morning, though.

I see the master volume jumping up and down due to the metronome function being enabled, but nothing comes out of my head phones.

I do hear all the other programs well...

Any ideas?

G

Sure, thanks, I just did. Better this way?

And I restarted Logic which made it work just fine.

Sorry - next time I'll do that before posting.

I'll be back when running into the next wall :)

Best

Well, that was somewhat temporarily.

Here's this morning's issues:

1) MainStage doesn't make sounds, although the Master volume is up and shows signals.

2) Logic Pro - same thing: Master Volume shows it should sound but it doesn't.

3) I stop ignoring the PACE warning that I'm missing some software extensions, download the latest drivers and install them

4) Now neither of the programs [LP and MS] will even start up! They will freeze at "Checking MIDI drivers" [LP] and at "Initializing MIDI" [MS]. [screen shots are attached].

I was really enthusiastic about the possibilities of both programs, but it seems like it comes with a heavy price tag of burning a lot of time on software failure... :(

Volume licenses?

Sorry, but that is normally a huge red flag for me in regards to non legit copies of Logic... and as i described in another thread, updating a non legit copy of Logic can and does cause major issues...

So, I have to ask... is your Logic legit?

Yes it is. I didn't buy it, but I installed it from an original DVD a friend gave me, along with his Serial.

I assume you're allowed to install a purchased version of Logic on a few computers? I did the same with Sibelius, which is limited to 5 [or 6] installations.

But tell me, what are Volume licenses and could that lead me to an answer?

Then, my friend, your copy is not a legitimate one.. and the likelihood is, your friend got it illegitimately too given it is a volume license.. unless he just gave you an illegitimate serial to use with it, which is not good too.

It should also be more than 1 DVD that you installed...

Uh, you lost me here. I don't want to do anything illegal, so could you possibly clarify two things:

1) I'm not a native English speaker; what does the term Volume License mean?

2) Given the fact that he has the original DVD and has the Suite installed on his Mac Pro and my installation is on my MacBook Pro [and in addition even live in the same house], we're pretty much within the limits of what Apple states as legitimate, no? Should I re-evaluate my understanding of the installation license?

Thanks in advance

OK.. The license for Logic is normally a ONE USER license. That license used to allow one user to install Logic on a desktop and a Laptop though you could only use one of these computers at a time.

When you try to use both computers at the same time an error message will appear telling you, you cannot do so. This message can be circumvented by means of a crack that was used but that crack leads to the issues you are seeing when someone updates to 9.1.6 which uses a different method of protection.

If you would like to test this for yourself, try turning off your WiFi and/or unplugging your Ethernet cable and see if Logic starts up normally or not

Volume Licenses are normally only bought by and used by large companies.. and it would be extremely rare for an individual to have a Volume License... which cost large amounts of money to purchase.

If you would like my advice... and I am not judging you for using illegal software..

but i would:

Fully uninstall Logic using the info in this thread:

http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=30524

Following David's instructions exactly.

Then go to the Mac App Store and purchase Logic there (at a very much reduced cost these days) and install that

Now you will be the legitimate owner of Logic

Also, why are you using Pace (iLok) software? Did you buy some plugins for Logic?

or..

Did you friend give you some plugins to use with Logic?

No.

Yes.

Logic Pro License Agreement

Read page 1 paragraph 2 of the agreement.

You can read it in any language you choose.

You should own your own license. A volume license is not one for multiple individual users to share, it's one for a school or a studio to install on multiple machines, but typically in the same building, and there's still a single license owner, the school owner, or the studio owner.

I appreciate the fact that you do not want to do anything illegal. Then that means you should own your own single user license. I believe it will allow you to install Logic on two computers (I haven't read the license agreement lately and only use one license per computer myself). But that would still not mean you can install it on your computer and give the DVDs to a friend so they, too, can install it on their computer. That would only mean you can install it on your studio computer, and also on your laptop, for example. Both installs are still being used by a single user.

Keep in mind, in the software world, you never buy "the software" or "the DVD", you buy a "license": that means you buy the right to do whatever the license agreement allows you to do. Nothing less, nothing more.

In fact, it is sometimes the same in the music world: for example a record company wants to use a song you wrote and produced to place it on a record they intended to release and distribute. However that song is yours and was already released and distributed by other means. So you sell them a license to use the song in question on that specific record . That's it. If they wanted to use the song, say, in a movie trailer, or in another record, or for any other use, they'd have had to come back to you and buy another license. You only sold them "the right to use my song for that specific record, under the specific terms agreed upon in the license agreement". You can sell more licenses to the same or other customers for the same song. That's how some musicians make a lot of money today, licensing songs to commercials, movie trailers, video games, TV Series, films, etc etc..

Hope that helps understanding how all of this works. That's not necessarily completely obvious when you have never dealt with it, and when you're used to simply purchase a physical object and having it be yours to do whatever you please with it including selling or giving it to someone else - not that simple with licenses: for example a student can purchase a student license, but they cannot then turn around and sell that to someone who's not a student. Etc etc...

OK, I just got a hundred bucks poorer, but it turns out I get a student discount at school. Got the tip from the same friend who let me install his version before. I guess it's a fair price to pay.

So I got my own DVDs/serial, uninstalled Logic Studio [which was a darn pain in the ass, why don't they deliver it with some kind of uninstall tool? I had to delete file by file. Sooo annoying], installed it again, entered the serial, updated... and yeah!! It works!!! ...a little.

MainStage seems to be fine. I can use it. Loopback has a terrible latency when looping with PShift II, but it works. Great! :)

As to Logic Pro - still the same. There's simply no sound coming out.
