jayfield
When using the change gain function in an audio file, I sometimes get small unpleasant audio artifacts left over from the process. Anybody know how to avoid this? Thanks
lagerfeldt
Like a click sound? Make sure you have enabled the Search for Zero Crossings function while editing. Still, you need to be careful where you edit. Perhaps you will need to silence and fade in/out to avoid the clicks. If you're getting distortion t's probably because you're gaining too much. That will overload the audio and lead to clipping, which sounds like distortion/crackling. If it's low level noise it's probably because you're raising the noise floor as well when you're gaining. In theory you could be hearing quantization noise, but that's quite unlikely unless you're dealing with very low level signals and massive amounts of gain. Make sure you record in 24 bits and have a headroom of 3-6 dB and never clip while gaining. If you're using a lot of destructive gain in the Sample Editor it's probably because you're not using the compressor right. Use the compressor to even out the levels on the channel and use volume track automation as well.
fader8
Like a click sound? Make sure you have enabled the Search for Zero Crossings function while editing. And even at that, if you're working with stereo files their crossings will rarely match between the two channels. So the editor snaps to the zero crossing of one channel, but that still leaves an offset in the other. Best to pre or post-process the edit with a short fade in this case. lagerfeldt
Right. I too recommended the fade in/out for that exact reason
