Hamlet S.
I'd like to become an Apple certified pro, but I've decided to wait with taking on a training courses until Logic X. In the meantime I'd like to get deepen my knowledge and ability with Logic 9. I like the idea of some of these sites that have other advanced training modules like compression masterclasses etc, but in depth Logic teaching is my main priority. So with more and more teaching websites and tutorials available, both free and paid, I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on recent experiences with Logic training online? Andyreww
For certification prep you can't go wrong with the following books: Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express 9 http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Logic-Express/dp/0321636805 Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 Advanced Music Production http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Advanced-Production/dp/0321647459 The above said, you are looking for online training, not books. i have taken courses at PointBlank Online and believe they are top notch. Take a look at these courses: Logic Course http://www.pointblankonline.net/logic-course-level-1.php Logic Advanced Course http://www.pointblankonline.net/logic-course-level-2.php I have taken both of the courses and they have been key in my learning. The courses are Dance Music focussed however; the courseware is excellent, there are plenty of video's in each week's lesson, a chartroom session with a pro-producer, weekly assignments and, one-on-one feedback on your assignment. I haven't come across courses as well rounded as PointBlanks. You can try a sample course at the following url: http://www.pointblankonline.net/sample-a-course/ These are shortened versions of the full courses. Other than PointBlank you could try: http://www.macprovideo.com/ http://www.berkleemusic.com/music-production Hope this helps.... Andy
logicproguy
Hi Juicylime, talk with David, if your around his location he has classes that offer these type of services. Where are you based out of? What type of music are you looking to produce? I can give you one important thought "surround your mind with as much information as you can" Your best teacher is yourself, use the internet for it's great sources. Hamlet S.
Great reply there Andy. Thanks for the input. Point Blank and Berklee charge about US $1,000 for each substantial course, Mac pro video is A LOT cheaper than the other two at $200 for everything on their site for a year. I'm looking for quality over cheapness, but if Mac pro video is good enough, they'll be hard to look past on price.
Hamlet S.
Hi Juicylime, talk with David, if your around his location he has classes that offer these type of services. Where are you based out of? What type of music are you looking to produce? I'm based in Dublin, Ireland. Where it's always sunny. I work on projects of modern pop folk type stuff and also synthie dance. The plan is too start working more with other artists on pop songwriting and production. I can give you one important thought "surround your mind with as much information as you can" Your best teacher is yourself, use the internet for it's great sources. I'm digging in hard these days on the self training. There's a lot of great info out there, but I find my own projects and modus operandi simply don't open up Logic as deeply as I know it can go. So sometimes it's a case of of not even knowing what questions to ask in order to develop, so at this stage I'd like structured learning. for Logic. I'd LOVE to attend one of David's courses. My girlfriend may be heading over that direction for Bikram yoga teacher training, if so I plan to head over and do one of David's courses at the same time. Or maybe even two of them David; do you do any online training related to your book or courses?

buzwah
I can +1 the MacProvideos. I've bought tons of them and they are all useful. They even offer regular discounts if you register with them. The TNT ones especially go deep and are well worth the bucks.
capt7
Juicy , I to have bought alot of tutorials from macpro video and they are well worth the money..BUT I have also bought Davids book...you can never have to many tools to help learn logic , and Davids book is great cause it starts out with very basic stuff to help you learn the ins and outs of logic. Also sflogicninja on youtube has alot of great videos
Hamlet S.
I plan on getting David's books alright. I wonder will he do one for Logic X too? I'm a big fan of the likes of sflogicninja, that guy has helped a lot of us out there. But it's not the structured A to Z learning that I'd like. I found structured tutorials through a thread on gearslutz worth sharing . I"ve only checked the first ones and they are VERY basic. I guess they'll get deeper as they go on. But the tutorials are good considering they are free. Here is the site: http://www.dancetech.com/article.cfm?threadid=188&lang=0 and here is the thread: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/397162-logic-studio-tutorial-series-free.html From what I've seen so far Mac Pro Video looks hard to beat on quality for the price. I think you're on the right track - I've found multiple avenues for learning with Logic Pro. David's book, Youtube (sflogicninja is great), Macprovideo etc. The PB courses offer more at a higher cost - obviously budgets come into play here. Budgets always matter I think proper training on your DAW of choice is up there with room treatment as one of the most under rated, but wisest areas to spend your money on. But the difference in some of the online course prices could run into several €000's over a year of training. I could travel to David's course for that money and still have change for burgers. Hamlet S.
I wanted to come back and share my experience after using MacProVideo. It is the best $25 I've ever spent. I can't see how other online programs can compete on value. Especially with all the other subjects thrown in. However, their tutorials are in Logic 8 even though they say they are "Logic Pro & Express 9.0", so you'll need to work around that on some points. I used 8 before 9, so no biggie for me. But a noob might wonder why their zoom key command isn't working David's book is in the mail. We'll see if he gets the new best $25 ever spent award.
