Rustyman
I have a number of VSL instruments set up in a single instance of VSL on a multi-instrument set-up of Logic 9. I would like to have individual control over Volume data on each track, but when I write in data the Volume on the track where VSL is initiated is affected. I've used Tobias Eshcer's tutorial on "Setting Up an Orchestral Temp. with VE Pro in Logic Pro 9" to the extent that I can. But not having VE Pro presents a problem, nor do I want to control volume in Vienna Ensemble...I want to control it in Logic, "writing" it in using Automation data and Expression data. In the Environment, I opened a multi-instrument and a transformer to try to get control over Volume (see screen shot), but nothing I've tried to this point seems to work. I am a novice at this too...only a year...so any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!! My equipment: Mac Pro; Processor- 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core 12GB Ram Logic 9.0.2 I hope I've given enough of the right information here....Thanks so much ahead of time for any and all help!! Minimoog
If this is what I think you are asking,...there are a million posts and workaround templates for logic. I suggest looking up one of davids old ones. This is how I learned this. The use of a channel splitter and transformer are needed too. I still scratch my head at the ridiculous way Logic handles this...sorry not much help, but I will say that after a few years with the workarounds. I pretty much just use independent stereo versions these days,...or write vol automation to the aux busses rather than the midi track.

Minimoog
funny you mention this,...I think the same things. If my computer and Ram weren't strong enough to just use stereo versions of VI's I'd be pissed with Logics incapability to handle Multis.....I mean,...how may years now,...and this crazy workaround is still needed. die hard Logic guys are like...... "what? what do you mean? Logic handles multis great! LOL Cubase handles multis great,..WAY simpler,...the way it should be.... send a midi track to a VI,.....write the fader moves till your hearts content....keeps me on the right side of the brain. ski
I'd like to suggest that the environment I posted a while ago for handling multi-timbral plugins is pretty straight-forward and requires very little cabling. It's the scheme I use in my projects: viewtopic.php?p=370866#p370866
Minimoog
Bravo Ski! again,....that worked,....you are a wealth of Logic knowledge,...thanks for sharing as well. This makes my head hurt just thinking of it though......
Rustyman
Thanks so much guys for your help here! I'm going to read (and re-read) these instructions and get back to you with "stellar" results! At least I sure hope so!
popscreen
Ok, I've read through all the various workarounds -- and even stumped a paid-tech phone/web support person today. The problem I have is dealing with the "Aux" solution when using something like a Virus TI2 with the Virus Control plug-in. The TI2 only has six mono outputs which can be sent to Auxes. That doesn't help solve the remaining 10 midi channels. Anyone figure that out? Thanks! This is mind-boggling, truly.
