bigced74
I have a problem i have never ran into before. i have an instrumental that i cant get the exact tempo for. I use the BPM counter on a regular basis and have always been able to get the correct tempo but for some reason this one is a little off. My problem is that an artist recorded 2 versuses and a chorus. The recording wad fine but they now want the last verse first and when i move it ni matter what i do its a little off and the same thing when I move the chorus. My question is is there a way to get the correct tempo or more importantly get the verse and chorus lined up maybe with flex or another method. michl
Has the track originally been recorded with a click?

grayter1
Is there a tempo change in the track somewhere?
bigced74
No there is no tempo change the tempo is hanging between 141 and 140.
David Nahmani
Are the transients on the drum tracks perfectly lined up to the grid?
bigced74
No there not. If im doing it right went in to sample editor and went to view transient editor mode
David Nahmani
No, what I meant was, in the Arrange area, if you zoom in close enough on, say, your kick drum track, do you see the attacks of your kick drums being lined up with the grid? rida2
No there is no tempo change the tempo is hanging between 141 and 140.9 ... That's very close- 0.1 out. So loop out the section over a long time, and see which metronome tempo still sounds in sync toward the end. Adjust the end of the section if needed until the looping itself feels right. Since you're cutting the last verse to reposition it to be the first verse- then it's actually easier- get the tempo using the method described above for the majority of the song- then recalc your cut and paste portion. It could also be that the original recording was a cut and paste- out of exact sync??

Like this: It doesnt seem like it. But i dont have seperate tracks the instrumental is all one file That's very close- 0.1 out. So loop out the section over a long time, and see which metronome tempo still sounds in sync toward the end. Adjust the end of the section if needed until the looping itself feels right. Ive tried that and everything was fine until i had to move the verse from the end to the beginning of the song
David Nahmani
do you see the attacks of your kick drums being lined up with the grid? It doesnt seem like it. That's going to be very challenging cutting and moving sections unless your transients are lined up to your grid. If you can see the transients fairly well on your instrumental track, or you can clearly determine where one kick is at the beginning, and another maybe in another section further down the song you can try to beat map it: Beat mapping audio regions. Note that if the tempo is straight there's no need to beat map every single transient, just two of them at two points as far as possible in the song, and the entire song should then be on the grid. bigced74
I think i found the problem there was just a piece of silence in the front of the track I trimmed it and moved the track and now it loops perfect at 141 bpm. My problem now is the vocals were recorded at 140.9 so its a little off
David Nahmani
Use Flex Time to stretch the vocals so they play back at the right tempo: select the vocal track, in the track parameters set Flex mode to monophonic, and then you can either drag the upper right corner of the region manually, eyeballing it until it looks/sounds right, or you can cut precise sections of vocals and try to make them match the equivalent sections on the instrumental. Kinda depends on the way the vocals go, and your personal preferences.
