soloing a group of tracks using automation

Hi,

If I want to solo 5 tracks in real time using automation, how do I do that? I have made a group in the group settings, put those tracks on the latch setting and have checked the solo box but it doesnt record the changes. I know how to mute a set of tracks no problem.

So, the way Ive been doing it, is to make a group of ALL BUT the 5 tracks that I want to solo and then press mute in real time. But this doesnt work because when I unmute those tracks, Ive now unmuted everything, including tracks I dont want playing. I hope this makes sense. I guess its something simple that Im not doing.

Thanks for your time.

Glenn

I can get to this to work by ticking 'Write Automation For>Solo' in the 'Preferences>Automation' window.

Also, is 'Solo' ticked in your 'Group Settings>Automation Mode'?

Then I can write automation in Mixer Window in real time>Record using a grouped channel strip.

However, this won't work for me the other way around if I write using track automation in the Arrange Window.

Hope this helps.

Thanks both for your replies....it helps a lot. It seems to record the solo when I click the solo button in the channel strip rather than the solo button next to the instrument name in the arrange window. Im guessing it would also work by clicking it in the mixer window.

Thanks.

Its the small things that bug me.

Keep in mind that when Track Mute/Solo is set to "Remote Channel Strips" in your audio preferences, the solo buttons in track headers are nothing but remote control for the solo buttons on the channel strips. My guess is, that's why it's not working.

Use the solo buttons on one of the channel strip from the group and it should work as expected.
