great little free app for determining file sizes

Recommended Posts

Since OS 7.1 (I think) I've always been able to use (in List view, cmd-2) the Finders' own Size column (click on the header to make it the "Sorter".) to quickly see what are the biggerest folders.

hmmm, i'm on 'snow' and can't see the size of folders...i think for now, 'DW' is an elegant substitute and if residing in the dock is just an extra couple of clicks

And here's another.....

OmniDiscSweeper

that's very similar to the one i posted save for one really annoying thing - it scans the whole drive first before you can really see the bigger picture...with the other app you can zero in on a location and it scans from there which works out better when you have multiple large drives with tons of sub (and sub sub) folders

Do Command+J in the finder (Show View Options) and check the "Calculate all sizes" box to show folder size.

J.

haha, that did it...muchas gracias.....and the 'big icon' view makes it even easier on the eyes

of course, now i can see my file sizes natively i realise my hard drive is full of programs that tell me the size of my directories :D
