ninox_rufa
Got a new MBP with a 750GB, 7200rpm drive on the way. I've also ordered an internal Seagate Momentus XT 750GB, 7200rpm hard drive to replace the DVD drive. I'm wondering if I should install OS X on the Seagate. The MBP's drive will be fast enough for sample libraries and from what I've read I should see an increase in performance running off the Seagate. However I thought there could a reason (e.g. the way the drives connect to the logic board) why I should leave the OS on the MBP's drive. Anyone done anything similar? triplets
I would leave osx on the internal and put samples and projects on the seagate.
treeboxterry
I believe that the OP said both drives will be internal... The question was about whether one of the internal connections is better optimized via its connection to the motherboard.

The question was about whether one of the internal connections is better optimized via its connection to the motherboard. I understood all that, hence my recommendation. The optical drive is a SATA connection so there's no difference in speed.
ninox_rufa
The Seagate is a hybrid drive (contains flash memory) which makes it faster than a standard drive. I know the optical connection is SATA but thought there might be some other difference. If there isn't I'll definitely put the OS on the Seagate.
