pizzuti1
I was using my Yamaha Motif as a midi controller thru Logic....I moved my Yamaha to another site, and now when Logic starts a message pops up that Midi port 2 is assigned to a device that is not present. Sometimes it takes it several minutes to display the message, and the program will not do anything until the message appears...I have gone under preferences, tried to remove the Motif, but always comes back when re booted...suggestions? David Nahmani
Do you mean something like this? That's because you have an object in the environment with its output set to a MIDI port that is no longer available on your computer. To stop this message, you have to open the project, choose Window > Environment, and at the top left in the layer menu, go through the various layers, looking for the object. It's most likely in a layer called "MIDI Instr." but it could really be anywhere. The object will look like this: Click the icon at the top of the object to select the object, then press delete to delete it, then SAVE your project again. You will have to do this for any project that gives it the alert.
pizzuti1
Thanks, but actual message says Device '''' is assigned to Midi Port "port 2" which is not present, Please ensure that all midi interfaces are connected and switched on. Then it says if correct reset midi ports. When I go to Environment like you mentioned, picture 4 is there under midi section, but says GM device, not Motif. Tried deleting that, saved project, and restarted, but still got message, and the picture was back...Logic works fine, but when you start it up, sits there with the little search circle going for about 25 seconds till it gives the picture 3 screen. Thanks for any other advise, Jay
David Nahmani
Ok - then try going to Logic Pro > Preferences > Control Surfaces > Set Up and see if the device is there? If it is, delete it. Let us know?
pizzuti1
Thanks, I will try that when I get home from work. Think I might have tried that already, but not 100% sure. One way or another we will lick this thing! LOL!

pizzuti1
ok, got home a few ago, and its as I thought...had already been that route....next I went to controller assignments screen...in the input message box on right side of box the Motif is sitting there...says Midi input port 2 Yamaha Motif XS8 with check mark next to it...there are two other options in a pull down screen, both are dark black, whereas the Motif is a dull gray. One says Any, and the other says Cap Locks Keyboard....I changed it to Cap Lock Keyboard, saved the project, closed Logic, rebooted, and message is still there....go back to assignment screen, and Motif is back in the slot...maybe I will need to get my Motif back from the studio, plug it in, and see if it can be un-assigned in that manner? Thanks for your understanding...I am an old fart, and barely computer savvy....I go back to 24 track machine days! LOL! Also, I have noticed that Apple is selling Logic only through Apple.com now.....I bought mine at GC.com, and mine is a 32 bit version...was thinking of upgrading to 64 bit when I purchase a new computer this summer. Running an IMac that is about 4 years old, dual core, and I have updated the os to snow lep...does Apple offer a cross grade to 64 bit?
David Nahmani
next I went to controller assignments screen Controller assignments? Or Control Surfaces setup? Did you try what I suggested? I'm not too sure what you're looking at, if you could post screenshots maybe that would help.
ski
Yeah, definitely post screenshots. A picture's worth 1000 words and all that. Also, check your AudioMIDI setup and see if there's anything in there that would raise your suspicion.

Scott Jackson
how do I get screen shots. Take a picture with camera, save to computer, then copy and paste? Shift+Command+4 Your curser will turn into a cross hair. Click/hold and drag to select the screen area that you want to show. Release the mouse. The screenshot will end up on your desktop. Upload the attachment to your post.
pizzuti1
Thanks for all the assistance....I finally took the chicken way out....backed up all my songs, deleted Logic from my computer, and reloaded it...not the quickest fix in the world, but no more problems! Well, not till I decide to bring my Motif back to the house! LOL! Again, much thanks! You guys are the best....Jay
