Serial # question

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased Logic Pro 9 through the app store with an Apple gift card. I can not find the serial number anywhere. I looked at "about Logic Pro" when the program is open and there is nothing. Logic Express 9 (9.1.7) is also installed on my MacBook and the serial number is listed there in "about Logic Express." I'm planning on getting a new MacBook Pro in the future and will be using Logic Pro 9 on it. How do install Logic Pro 9 on my new computer? Do I need to download the pgm from the app store again. Is there a way to burn a DVD of my downloaded Logic Pro 9. Where would it be? It's not in my "downloads " folder.

Thanks in advance!

John

On your (new) Mac - if you open the App Store, you will see Logic Pro as something you have already purchased. You can download and install it from the App Store to your other Macs. You can't run the program concurrently though.. I have Logic loaded on my iMac, and MB Air systems.. no issues. You don't need to burn a DVD... You only need to connect your systems to the internet, and launch the App Store

From the EULA --

"...you are granted a limited non-transferable license to install and use the Apple Software only on Apple-branded computers that you own or control in accordance with the Mac App Store Product Usage Rules..."

I have not used the App Store yet as I bought the discs before they started downloading everything. I am interested in the new EULA. From your quote is looks like they loosened the license a bit.

Will you post a link to the source of your quote please?

Hi Scott -

I am running Logic 9.1.7 - clicked "About Logic Pro" under the Apple menu - then selected License Agreement button. I copy/pasted directly from there. The file probably exists somewhere on Apple's site as well.. but I am too lazy to search it out.

Cheers -

jdoo,

Thanks for your reply.

That must either be a 9.1.7 thing or a Download thing because here on 9.1.5 I don't have that License Agreement button.

Precisely why I asked you for the link. I'm feeling lazy too today.

I'll give it a search.

Thanks.

OK... In a non-Lazy moment - I decided to do a quick search. What I found however ... is a difference in the EULA for Logic Pro purchased through the Mac App Store (like I did, and the OP). Not sure how this applies to folks who have other versions of Logic Pro (i.e. did not purchased through the Mac App Store...)... for that -- you should consult your attorney. :?

Mac App Store relevant section (what I copied above, from the text in Logic Pro..)

"...you are granted a limited non-transferable license to install and use the Apple Software only on Apple-branded computers that you own or control in accordance with the Mac App Store Product Usage Rules located at: http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/ (“Mac Usage Rules”). Except as permitted under the Mac Usage Rules, you may not distribute or make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple devices at the same time. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, transfer, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software."

The other EULA section (non App-Store purchased) ... note the differences

"This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to run on more than one computer at a time. ..."
