Hellishmusic
Hi, I discovered a funny issue today. When placing the mouse pointer at the tail end of a region I should get either the Loop, Fade or Trim tool, depending on where the pointer is placed. The respective tools are working, but mouse/ tool icon is not changing to indicate which is active. Meaning I can still do a trim of the region(or any of the other options) but the mouse pointer is still shoving me the arrow. Any one seen this before? David Nahmani
I've seen this quite a bit before, and I've never used Mountain Lion yet. So I don't think it's necessarily related. In my experience the behavior comes and goes and it's hard to pinpoint when or why it happens. Is it just constant since you installed ML or does it come and go? Hellishmusic
Hi David. I have been using Logic for six years and never seen this before, since ML this has been constant. I'm running in 32bit mode, tried to switch to 64bit, but no change. Really strange behavior.
BCProject
Just started happening to me - post ML upgrade. Fwiw.
Gravity Jim
I used to see the same behavior in Digital Performer (it has the same kind of place-sensitive auto mouse thing), under Leopard, SL, and Lion. I just figured it meant it was time to give the program a rest: re-launching DP always fixed it.
iMacCartney
+1. All the pointer tools totally messed up at leasts in arrange and pianoroll windows after installing ML. Very annoying.
jc_lounge
I also see this irritating behaviour consistently with Logic 9.1.7 on Mountain Lion. Side question: Did Apple ever test Logic on ML at all before release? Because damn.
iMacCartney
Anyone? Is there anything to do about this? It's drivin me gr.....

n6smith
Are you using the trackpad or a mouse and if so, which model? I ask because there are several posts on the net about issues with the pointer not changing in other apps when using Logitech Mice..
Hellishmusic
I an using the magic mouse and the built in track pad on my MBP. Same issue with bouth.
raffi
Experienced it too and found the solution. It's a Mountain Lion / Logic bug which happens if you have Logic assigned to It's own Desktop Space (Like Desktop 1/2/3/4/5....) or if you use Logic in fullscreen mode. Never had this issue on Lion 10.7 Solution: Right click your Logic icon in the dock, go to "Options" and select "None" under the Assign To section. Hope this works for you too. raffi
You can actually see the mouse cursor bug occur live, if you have Logic open, right click the icon and select Options > "None" test it and then move to a new Desktop space and switch back to Options > "This Desktop" which makes the bug active again
xgman
Thanks Raffi, I'll avoid that. I wonder if Apple even knows about this. probably not.
Eric Cardenas
Are you guys using Logic in fullscreen mode?
Hellishmusic
Thanks Raffi! I actually had Logic assigned to desktop #2, i turned off the assignment, and no change, but when i moved logic onto desktop #1 then everything got back to normal... Thanks again:)
iMacCartney
Thanks Raffi. There's still something weird. When I open piano roll, the velocity tool is always selected. If I change it to another tool, go back to arrange window and open piano roll again, velocity tool's selected as a left click tool. Is there some global settings for that? Revs
I just tested it quickly now, and yes the problem is the desktop setting. A bit stupid because I find it really useful when I just open Logic and it automatically leads me to an empty screen. I find it somehow annoying to search for a clean desktop However, I don’t have the problem with the velocity tool. In the piano roll, I have the mouse pointer and the pen tool and they both show correctly. But then, I have only tested very quickly. I will see when I’ll be working and tell if anything is wrong
PrincePheonix
Hey guys, I came to this post cause I was having the same issues (running ML and Logic in fullscreen and whatnot) My mouse pointer wouldn't 'update' the correct tool and I had no knowledge of the assignment part of the dock, but after assigning Logic Pro to 'All Desktops' my pointer now updates in every window that Logic has command over Hope this helps a few of you guys, as My problems fixed now because someone mentioned the assignment option If I assign it 'None' btw it still doesn't work as that's what I had it on originally, so try 'All Desktops' if your problems still persist =^.,.^=
arbelos2
Yup. that was my problem too, and now sorted. Thanks. Except I can't use desktops the way I would like. Ain't it great when Apple software doesn't work properly on a Mac...

Nobser
Unfortunately this trick does not work for me I tried all settings, but in full screen the problem stays the same. No matter, which desktop and no matter which setting (none, all, this...). Only difference: I'm working in dual monitor mode: MBP Mid 2012 Retina and Dell U3011 connected via display port. U3011 is main display with dock, Retina is on left side of monitor... But even when MBP display is closed and the Dell is the only active monitor, same problem. It also does not matter, on which monitor Logic runs in fullscreen, Retina or dell. Windowed -> ok, Fullsceen -> mess Any other ideas? Logic on 30" in full screen rocks! Would like to use that.... mguleff
The same solution for seems to be to stick to desktop #1 in order to keep the cursor doing the right thing. It is odd that Apple's own software can be so difficult on its own machines at times.
Tribalman
Thanx to you Guy's ! Just changed all my stuff ( Mac Mini and ML ), discovered the nice multi Desktop with app assign thing. And of course, decided to assign Logic to desk 3 and have no made the relationship with the cursor bug :/ Fiuuuw, now all is well again! Hemm, not exactly after a while : In full screen weird things occurs, e.g. when I open Piano roll, sometime the cursor show the "up/down rezise" tool (you know, when you want to make the piano roll bigger ) anywhere I am, in arrange or in this window ! Logictree
Mavericks 10.9. I couldn't find the Assign To section in Options. Is it an option only in Mountain Lion? But the problem persists in Mavericks. Is there any way to solve this annoying cursor problem?
Tribalman
I do this: I don't assign Logic to any desk and I open it always on the first desk ( I have set 4 desks ) And the other apps on the other desk ( Safari on 3, Mail on 4 ) . No cursor bug anymore … For 10.9 I don't know ...
Bakmaind
I've seen this quite a bit before, and I've never used Mountain Lion yet. So I don't think it's necessarily related. In my experience the behavior comes and goes and it's hard to pinpoint when or why it happens. Is it just constant since you installed ML or does it come and go? I've a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch Late 2013 and I'm using two external displays. One connected to to the HDMI port (display 1) the other to thunderbolt (display 2). The MacBook display is closed. I’m working with Logic Pro 9.1.8 (32bit) with OSX 10.9.1 Why the mouse pointer in Logic Pro stops to change shape during work? The only way to become Logic Pro 9 to work again is recover system with Time Machine! Do you know that Logic Pro 9 (when it works) only works on main display and on desktop 1 (mission control) ? Do you know that software like Nuendo 4 (Steinberg) and Reason 7 (Propellerhead) works fine on all displays and in each desktop? This thing drives me crazy! Solutions? stratquebec
Same pointer issue, not only in logic but going, for example, from Safari to the finder. The pointer shape, for example keeps showing the pointing hand shape instead of reseting to the arrow pointer shape. The only way to reset the pointer shape in my case is to hit CONTROL on the keyboard. Works 9 out of 10 though.
