Nice reverb plug-ins?

Recommended Posts

I really need a/some new plug-ins, I don't know wether its just I haven't played around with the logic ones or not, but I need a better reverb, for my claps/hats and overall techno sound. Ive ben using the space designer and it just sounds to crackly, for ome reason i just cant a nice sounding reverb, also delays echo's etc.

Can anyone recommend/link me to some good plug-ins to use in logic, preferably free ones, cant afford any new stuff atm :-(

Or recommend a good setting for any of the built in reverb plug-ins in logic..

Thanks!

I would highly recommend checking out http://www.valhalladsp.com for some creative options at an insanely-low price. These plugins are top-notch in my opinion.

The Valhalla stuff looks good. I just want to bring to mind that Logic can do more than a single plugin can do if you combine plugins. Even feedback loops through several plugins are possible (you have to watch the levels, though - feedback can result in severe noise!).

For example I built loops consisting of a simple reverb (Silver Verb is not bad at all if you set the parameters cautiously), Ringshifter and a Compressor for avoiding the abovementioned severe noise.

And again, Space Designer does what is given by the IR, and that can be very much.

I completely agree with you Jope. I am still impressed with the quality and versatility of Logic's native plugins. But I wanted to bring Valhalla's software to SuperFreak's attention because they offer incredible sound processing at an unbelievable price. I would encourage SuperFreak to learn more about using Impulse Responses with Space Designer. The possibilities are almost endless. But sometimes artists can be inspired by using different tools for whatever reason, whether that has to do with workflow, the sounds produced or simply the excitement of using a different plugin.

I second exploring Space Designer. I think Logic users discount the quality of the plugins that come with logic. It's easy to fall into the trap thinking that because they are free (not free but included) that they are not that good and you need 3rd party plugs to get a good recording. The only 3rd party plugins I've found lacking in Logic are drums (I use Superior Drummer) and guitar amp sims (Guitar Rig for me, although the LePou free plugins are excellent).

That said, the Valhalla plugins seem to be good as mentioned. I really like Shimmer, haven't tried the rest.

nothing wrong with the quality of 'space designer', but it is designed for a specific purpose and therefore is lacking if you are looking for something else

also, the nature of the workflow, in that any minute change result in a reload of the IR, is a real annoyance for tweaking

to follow on from your argument about discounting plugins that are free, it is important to note that the resounding feeling here is to recommend a 3rd party plugin that is really cheap but is regarded a quite the 'giant killer', often being recommended over plugins many times the price

once again, i think that it is important to factor workflow into the equation.....logic has a great set of included instruments and effects, but that doesn't mean that people will click with the interfaces or workflow

i think 'room' , 'shimmer' and 'ubermod' all are without equal in logic...i also find a huge 'omnisphere'-shaped whole in logic's arsenal..the same can be said for 'alchemy' and everything that 'reaktor' brings to the table...there are tons more

i agree that if i had to make music with logic alone, i would be able to have fun and come up with decent quality output, but i find a lot lacking...there are other options out there very worthy of consideration

With Space Designer you can get any reverb,,, If you have the appropriate impulse response file.

If you want to try a free algo reverb, try Ambience.

thanks, i have downloaded it from the link you put, only one i can find the one that says 'mac osx9' ... my mc is 0sx10.. will this still work? Also, how do i get new plug-ins into logic? ive downloaded the ambience plug-in, but when i check logic, it doesnt show up?

Um... Well... I just tried the link myself, and there is a list with all available versions - the third one is the one you need: "Mac OS X Universal 32-bit and 64-bit AU". Download the "Ambience 1.0.7.dmg", activate it and put the "ambience.component" into /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components. After this is done, Ambience will show up in Logic's plugin menu under Audio Units -> Magnus @ Smartelectronix -> Ambience.

Wow, thanks everyone for your replies! Sorry for my late reply back!!!

Great, I will check out all the mentioned above! I've kinda realised now that its not so much a 'crackly' sound problem I've been having with space designer, its the 'reflection' that does sound a bit, crunchy, I can't get it to sound nice on my claps :(

But thanks, im check out the plug-ins mentioned!

Thanks again.

We won't give up yet... Have a look at the pictures below.

Here you should drop the component. You can use the common Library or your private (user's) Library, I tried both.

If you still don't succeed in using it, the only thing I can think of is that Ambience might not be compatible to your OS... which I don't believe. What setup are you running (OS, Logic Version) ?

For Free Reverb plugins I love Ambience and Voxengo's OldSkoolVerb.

http://www.voxengo.com/product/oldskoolverb/

I love how simple it is and how good it sounds (and how you can make plate/room/wood reverb without changing algorithms)

For premium reverb that beats almost everything else is 112db's Redline Reverb

http://112db.com/redline/reverb/

Also simple (all knobs), easy to use, amazing sound, and you don't have to change reverb algorithms to get Plate/Room/wood sounds.

you can make extremely realistic reverb sounds for instruments and vocals

or make incredible sweeping/atmospheric sounds and delay effects for electronic music and synths
