Channel Strip won't switch plug-ins when changed

When I go to change presets on a software instrument track the name of the track will change (as in from "electric piano" to "grand piano" etc.) but the plug-ins from the first instrument preset do not switch to the plug-ins of the preset that I switched to. Basically the channel strip stays exactly the same except for the name and the actual software instrument parameters. Any ideas?
