making 808 hit hard

Recommended Posts

no - compression won't tune a kick... what do you want to do with a kick? theres a million and 1 thing's that can be done with an 808 kick, if you post some examples of what you mean it'll be easier to help....

i guess i mean to make the bass punch more when you hear it

more bass? 808s are generally pretty bassy as it is.... by bass do you mean below or above 100hz? Do you want to use the kick as a sub bass synth or as the kick drum? if you post a video with the kick your referencing it makes thing's easier....

he's asking for more punch, not more bass.

try some significant compression.

DON'T boost the bass eq, just makes mud.

eq (try rolling off some, or a lot!, of lower-mid eq).

maybe add a bit at the high end (eq).

limit to keep it all under control.

i struggle to understand people sometimes unless their pretty specific..... for punch, compression, saturation / some distortion.... if your after some nice source samples goldbaby are meant to be pretty good.

dude he's pretty specific:

how exactly can i take a regular 808 kick and make it hit a lot harder?

(just saying...)

when i was a kid (that's a million years ago), i visited electric lady studios, and watched a reggae session. the producer kept asking the engineer for 'more bass', the best line i EVER heard in a studio, EVER:

"give me maximum bass on all frequencies, mon".

that's been our catchphrase ever since. btw, they blew out the urei monitors on that session. i love that story!!
