Help making an eerie soundscape

I'm trying to score a creepy short film and I'm in need of a horrifying soundscape. I don't really know where to start/what synth to use to get this sound, so I'm wondering if somebody can give me some advice and lead me in the right direction. I basically want a synth that sounds like that except with notes that can be held longer so I can layer some stuff on top. Any ideas?

Almost any synth pad can be made to sound creepy. I think it's much more about using nasty harmonies than what synth sound you use.

 

For the synth patch, I'd suggest checking out Sculpture and ES2 pad presets, and have a tweak around with them.

I couldn't play your example. Anyway, may this work as an inspiration for you. Here's what we did some time ago. For eg. recorded knife traveling against thai guitar strings, organic sounds are the best, and most of the other sounds from Omnisphere including burning piano.

you can get some pretty odd stuff out of anything with a randomise button ( the es2 has one )

 

Like rev say's - the actual harmonies are going to contribute a lot to it.... white noise is often worth making friends with when your doing sound design.
