Lion back to 10.6.8 question

Hi everyone

New Macbook Pro's arriving at school I teach at, obviously with Lion installed. Would rather stick with 10.6.8 but am having trouble explaining to IT support staff how to roll back.

Just to make sure I got this right, I can either use a disk image from an older laptop with 10.6.8 installed or I can download the 'update' to 10.6.8. from Apple website, right or wrong?

Also, will a disk image carry over Logic, Sibelius etc or will they need reinstalling?

Thanks a million

:)

No.. Unfortunately it is not that easy to downgrade a new MBP to Snow Leopard. The reason is SL doesn't have the drivers etc.. for the new hardware in a MBP and so there are all sorts of issues that can arise if you try to do so... The same applies to any clone or disk image you might try to use...

Do a google search and you will see the issues you will face...

Because of a) the network issues everyone's complaining about and b) the bugs everyone's been complaining about with Logic and c) I have no idea if there will be as many bugs with Sibelius.

Can't afford to mess up student's coursework or hinder their progress.

everyone? you mean EVERYONE has network issues, or is suffering from bugs? i guess i'm the lucky ONE.

for me, every version of os x has it's issues (and strengths), but lion is ok. really, tho...instead of rolling back, update it to mountain lion. in my experience, ML is the 'snow leopard of lion"...it's better, and more stable than lion. and logic is working great here.

otherwise...? google hard, check forums like macrumors (a good place for help), and explore your options...

Don't decide to NOT try Lion because of stuff you read on the Internet. A lot of that complaining is from the release over a year ago: Lion is completely stable now on virtually everybody's system. As for conflicts with Logic... well, Mountain Lion raised a bunch of problems (some of my plugs and drivers aren't ready) but going back to Lion fixed them.

Try it before you go to the trouble.
