SpazzyMcGee
Okay, this might be a really stupid question and you're all probably gonna flame me for asking it, but I'm prepared to take that risk.. Here's my situation: I have a talkbox that I've been using with my guitar, but now I wanna start using it with keyboard to get some Roger Troutman-esque stuff going.. but I don't have a synthesiser/keyboard. I just have my midi keyboard which I was gonna use to control a Logic synth.. I wanna know if it is possible to send all the audio tracks (generally just my mac audio) out of my Macbook audio-out to my speakers except for the synth track, which I want to send out through my interface and into the talkbox. I can change the Output settings in Preferences and send all of the tracks either through the interface OR the macbook output.. I can't seem to send different tracks to different ones. Is this possible? Thanks
David Nahmani
Yes, it's possible, just select the desired output for each channel strip, the output being the second slot below the label "i/o".
SpazzyMcGee
Well that's what I thought, but my USB interface doesn't come up as an option there.. it's only Stereo Out, or all the buses.. and Stereo Out is just whatever I've selected in the audio preferences, either my interface or the mac output. Maybe my question should be.. how do I set a Bus to my USB interface?
triplets
I don't think so. A separate bus would mean another output on the interface, which you don't have. You could try creating an aggregate device for the built-in output and use the bus thru that.
SpazzyMcGee
Interesting.. I think some more fiddling is in order.
David Nahmani
Well that's what I thought, but my USB interface doesn't come up as an option there. It's not supposed to come up as an option there, only available outputs (not interfaces) will show as options there. What interface are you using, and how many outputs does it have? SpazzyMcGee
Oh sorry, I thought I'd done that haha. I feel so basic.. Anyway, yeah I didn't think interfaces would show up there. I can select it as my Output in preferences, but that's obviously for Logic as a whole, I just wondered if it was possible to do it for select tracks, but maybe not. Thanks anyway! David Nahmani
Oh sorry I missed the part about using different interfaces for different channel strips. Then you'd want to create an aggregate device first, as triplets suggested. Note that you could also use the Talkbox as an i/o insert: http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicstudio/effects/#chapter=14%26section=3%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:TempBookID-ReplacedWhenAssociatingWithMessierRevision-UTL-1007861
SpazzyMcGee
Aggregate device worked perfectly! Thanks everyone!
